Images of finalised hardware surface on internet forums. Sources confirm authenticity

A new image of Microsoft's Xbox 360 has surfaced on web forums this evening, where it is believed an industry insider leaked the image.

Sources we spoke to who have already seen the hardware themselves confirmed that this image - despite being a render rather than a photo - is indeed the official finalised design of Xbox 360.

Other scant details have also been revealed to us by our sources.

Apparently, as well as removable media for saving games, gamers will be able to save games on to their home computers via LAN networks.

Whether or not this will allow game saves to be swapped is still unclear however, as saves may be marked to users' Gamertags.

Lastly, while the render of the finalised design is white, sources are adamant the outer shell of Xbox 360 will be removable, allowing gamers to personalise their console with a wide range of alternate colours and designs. Specific colours aren't yet confirmed, although the chrome model partially unveiled on viral marketing website Ourcolony.net yesterday is a genuine possibility.

If you ask me, it's a real clunker. Reminds me of my old mac. Then again, I was never really an XBox fan :p

1 controller port...How can the revised version of Halo 2 be played with ony one port?!

:getlost: I give up on Xbox...I want my money back...

its one port because the controllers are wireless, so you can use as many as you have on one console.

They've got more images out now of the XBox 360 now that they're "premiered" it on MTV.

It looks like a PC.

The good news is is that MS can release it whenever they want, the PS3 will still outsell it. :)

I've heard that the PS3 will be something ridiculouselly powerful, and the Revolution being a close contendent. But havn't been too impressed with Microsoft's marketing technique with 360, nor its design, nor its power.

PS3 is more powerful then the xbox360, however, it cannot use 100% of its power unlike the 360, it can forfill 100% of its operations. The prices that have been floating around for the 360 are quite cheap considering. Mean, what would you normally pay for 3 x 3.2ghz AMD Cpus, ATI customised 4 channel graphics card, 20gb removeable/upgradable HDD and wireless technology? Sounds expensive but i've heard prices like $600-700 AU and thats quite reasonable for me.

I don't care how deep MS's pockets are, the next XBox will have to be something that, one day, will actually make a profit.

In a way, I find it pathetic that the whole strategy of the XBox was to just get an audience for their next machine, regardless of how much money was lost along the way.

I think that these new consoles have the potential to bankrupt some of these companies. Not microsoft of course, but nintendo had better hope the revolution is a major contender or it could go the way of sega. They are going to have to charge some seriously high prices for these consoles or they are going to lose a lot of money.
I can only shudder to think how much games are going to cost for these new systems. the new ps3 is reportedly using a new disk system that will hold up to 6 times what a normal dvd can.
To whoever it was that said the 360 doesnt look powerful, you need to look again. the cpu for it has 3 chips each capable of 3.2 GHZ. if thats not powerful enough for a game system then something is definately wrong with gaming today.

these new systems are going way overboard as far as i am concerned. Yeah, all these specs sound nice , but are the games going to be fun. most games , IMO nowdays look great and all but they just arent that much fun. Yes there are exceptions.

mind you the ps3 specs need to hold capability of releasing at least 5 years worth of games with continously better graphics, since that will probably be the lifetime of the system so they need to look way into the future there. with that in mind i doubt game prices will increase significantly.

Somehow I doubt they will. Nintendo is such a big name now, with all the fanboy little kids and such that there's alot of people who don't give up on it. I say this is because every old person I know knows the name Nintendo. I say it and they go "Oh yes Nintendo blah blah blah". I say Xbox or Playstation and they have no idea what I'm talking about.

Yes, I talk to old people alot. They ask me if I like Nintendo. Just because I'm usually playing my XBOX WHEN THEY COME OVER :yucky:

I think you're referring to the double layered DVD's, which hold 9 gigs rather than 4.7, or the Blu-Ray or whatever DVD's. But if they used the Blu-Ray drives, you might as well buy a new computer rather than the PS3.

You know this...How? They told you? I want to talk to the marketing team too man, hook me up

The PS3 will use Blu-ray discs. That's been known for a long time... (it's especially been touted by proponents of Blu-ray). So... I fully expect you to buy a new computer instead of the PS3 for no reason now.

Having a well known name isnt that big of a thing. Sega was a huge name. People knowing your name and buying your products are two different things. You should look at who is winning the console wars. nintendo is last. the ds is also not going to be able to stand up to the psp i fear.
bottom line is you have to sell a whole lot of product to make a profit, and not long ago nintendo announced their first ever loss.
