It`s no good... after desperately wanting the game and trying to love it, I just can`t forgive it the stupid flaws which time and time again leave me extremely angry with it. The targeting crosshairs are a Perfect-Dark-style joke - the whole point of crosshairs are to help your accuracy, not be so stupidly designed that they get in the way and obscure what you`re firing at. The fact that if a TIE fighter gets on your tail and fires fast enough, you`re DEAD. A split second is all it takes. No argument. No warning. The fact that it is just too_damn_easy for a TIE to fly straight into you whenever you try to turn and bang, dead again. See Bespin start area for prime example. Relatively speaking very few TIE`s, but again and again you`ll either be shot to death so rapidly you won`t be sure what`s happened (exploding for no apparent reason is NOT fun, though admittedly the A-Wing sucks for shielding), or just crash straight into the bloody things. Those two flaws particularly get worse on Battle of Endor. Then there`s the stupid-ass upgrades. Mostly fun, but ever since I acquired the homing proton torpedoes, the odds of ever finishing Razor Rendezvous (one of the rare levels I actually enjoyed replaying) with a gold have dropped to impossible simply because they can`t be fired fast enough now!
Then there`s Strike At The Core, where you can officially fail the mission within 10 seconds of starting time and time again. Again much crashing into TIE`s and apparently random exploding will be `enjoyed`. As will the Falcon`s apparent general uselessness at doing, well, anything. Other than its habit of rising just when you boost your speed so you slam straight into it.
And this isn`t Monkey Ball style frustration either, where you clearly know its always your own fault. This is the bad kind of frustration, down to unavoidable events or trial-and-error gameplay segments, which gives nothing more than a strong desire to rip the still-spinning disc out of the drive, hurl it across the room as hard as possible and watch it shatter into tiny little fragments against the wall.
My upcoming review will likely be less than positive on this game...
