ok I just got done installing Silent Hill 4. But when I tried to run it, I got an error.. I opened up the requirements check thingy that came with the game. It turns out I had everything required EXCEPT for pixelshader... I did some research on the net and found out nvidia geforce4 mx doesn't support pixelshader.. so now I'm f***ed. Does anyone know a way around this without having to go buy a new graphics card?

You may really want to consider making sure that the card you buy has support for pixel shading 3.0 supported, as it seems pixel shading is the new technology in graphics that's really taking off. I just ordered a GeForce 6600GT for $149 and it supports PS 3.0, and is a DX9 hardware compatible card, and for the money, it's the best deal.

In case you were wondering, Pixel Shading is what allows for cool effects like reflections on water and realistic sun flares. Of course everybody wants to see stuff like that so its something every game being released has put in it.

Or like how that Luna demo on nvidia's website shows the light protruding through the creatures, so that you can see their internal membranes shine through when the light is behind them. And also how the Dawn demo allows the butterfly's wings to be partially transparent, while the texture of the wing remains intact. Really a cool thing being done with pixel shading.

No way to use pixel shaders? even using drivers or any other thing?

Nope, were talking hardware components here. The microchips required for pixel shaders just don't exist on your video card. Pixel shaders can't be emulated in software. Your only solution is to buy a new card.

Yes, there is a way to play silent hill 4 with g4, i mean overriding the system requeriments.
i know how, just open the folder where silent hill 4 is installed, rename CheckSpec.dll to CheckSpec.dll.fuckyou or try CheckSpec.dll.bak.

I hope it works.

It's always a bad idea to ignore the system requirements of a game. Don't try that, it might just make your game crash.
For pixel shaders, get a new card... they're not that really expensive. Geforce 3 Titanium and Geforce 4 Titanium and up I think supports pixel shaders...

You really should get a better card. Those GeForce 6600GTs are really nice (and I mean nice). I borrowed one from my brother for a few days, but since then developed an insatiable desire to get one. You can even run games like Splinter Cell full speed at 1600x1200 resolution! If you can spare $150, by all means get one.

I think you can try using 3Danalyzer. You can make it to make like if there was any pixel shader version but it will appear as white when you'll play the game. Sadly, that's one of the only way you will be able to play the game if you use that card.

Hah, if you think pricewatch has slow deliveries, you should check out awedeals.com. I ordered an AMD Athlon XP 2700+, chose the 5-day delivery package, took approximately two weeks to get to my house. Not only that, but after about 90 days, the processor gets fried. It was a faulty piece of crap. Last time I'm ordering there..
