OK, a friend wants to buy my mobo and my processor, however i do not have the money to go on and buy an athlon 64 but i saw a Sempron 2600+ at a reasonable price, even the most poor mobo is better than mine but will the processor be slower than mine?

At your service, dood!
You're better waiting and saving up to buy an Athlon 64, end of the day if you buy the Sempron you will be upgrading again much quicker which costs more money :p - Is the processor speed that serious you must upgrade right this minute? You know it makes sense ;) AMD64's aren't that much more expensive... one paycheck more and you'll grab yourself a much faster system! (Not a slightly faster system a much faster one).

Still, if you must have an upgrade now the sempron will do :D - It's your choice!

Personally I don't see the point of upgrading to a slightly faster processor, rather put it off until I can get a much faster one, that's what I did with my Athlon XP 2400+.

I waited until I could afford my P4 3.2ghz, and this thing can be 2-3 times faster in most cases. That is just my opinion though, I just know from experience buying smaller upgrades costs a lot more cash in the long run because you end up upgrading again to the next slightly faster processor as little as a year later.

After having my p4 here, this baby can pretty much last a couple of years. The AMD64 3200+ is slightly faster than my P4 and cheaper so you'd get a good deal if you waited to buy that. I'm definitely happy with my purchase though.

Well if you plan on upgrading that socket 754 athlon64 +2800 in a year or so it won't be worth it since you will have to buy a whole new processor and mobo.if you get the athlon64 +2800 do you plan on upgrading that later or gonna keep it for a few years?

sorry for my small abscence, but now my new specs are under the sig.
My dear duke, now it is a very crazy thing to get a athlon 64 here let alone the 939 (is it?)
socket variation, if i have to upgrade it later i´ll try out what stunt i can pull off and thx for the advice.

nice processor :D but the clock speed (ghz) could be a little faster :p

It seem that the more FSB AMD gets on their processors, greater gets the gap between raw speed and the "quantispeed" name they get, i mean my old XP 2200+ was 1.8 GHz and my new 64 is 1.8 GHz, it is with no doubt way faster but i dunno if it can fare against a P4 2.8 GHz.
I´ll go over the bechmarks and tell you later.

went over the web and...http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=33 my Processor smashed the P4 all the way.

I got the same set up about a year ago, KV8-Pro 3rd eye + 64 2800+, I got it to OC to 2.3GHz with an HTT of 255 @ 5:6 with my OCZ pc3200 Plat EL Rev 2s. It ran very well, but I wanted more. I got the Clawhammer 3700 2.4GHz this week. This is as far as this board will go from what I hear. OCing is not going as well, but I'm still a n00b @ that type of thing... This board has a few issues with OCing also, make sure you do some research, get the latest BIOS, ABIT has a temp config issue, and from what I have read and experienced it runs on the warm side anyway. It also runs the RAM too aggressively. I had to move the LDT to 3x before much of any OCing was stable.

Anyway Good :luck:

That post is not good for your reputation because you just bumped a two month old thread, read the rules.

Did not see any rules about bumping at all, or a time limit on replies... Please, post the link to that "rule"... I will :bounce: on over there and learn myself...

I searched for my board in hopes of finding help, I though that's what forums are for. I had hopped to re-kindle a topic as opposed to opening a new one so that there would defiantly be a response. I have been posting on 4 boards lately with little or no response. Unfourtunatly the only reply I have seen tonight is someone complaining about my reply... :x

You'll have to excuse the attitude, I have gotten frustrated with forums, and your reply has not helped...

Thanks... :ranting:

Dude, here are our rules...http://www.emutalk.net/talk-town/21490-emutalk-net-rules.html
Live by them, die by them.

Now, seriously, post your doubt at techtalk as a new thread and i assure you that a great number of ppl, most highly qualified, will attempt to help you in the best that they can.
Emutalk is made out of very fine ppl but sometimes our sense of humor can get a little over the top and our responses can be harsh although GCFreak is right, you never read the rules, try to disregard that and keep posting, don´t get me wrong, i am no mod but i am a member of this community and i would hate to leave a bad imppression of us.
Thank you.
PS: can a mod close this, my processor was already bought!

GCFreak: we do not condone posts such as yours, that is the job of a moderator or admin, not a random forum member, in other words.. don't be a dick

allthatwhichis: Technically, this qualifies as gravedigging, and it was intended to warn people off of spamming old threads to increase their post count, although that does not appear to be your intent. Oh, and if you would kindly clearly state your question in a new thread, you may find that people will contribute to it.

I would also like to take the opportunity to remind other members to check the rules periodically as they do get updated and a pertinent rule has been ignored here by a member...
