Notebook help: You opinion is REQUIRED!

I'm planning on buying a notebook (AKA laptop).

This is the one im looking at, the manfactures site is here, and the full specs are here(PDF viewer required).

Now I'd like you guys to gimme some input. Is it just me or is this a good deal? Do you know of other notebooks that are better and are about the same price?

Anything is good.

Thankie :holiday:

Well, Ive never been a fan of DVD/CD-RW combo drives. It doesnt say anything about video or sound. 256 MB is hardly enough anymore. 20GB is definately kinda small. I dont know, looks kinda outdated for $900

hmm that's cheap...

oh I know why it's because of the 'older' 1,2 celeron.
My dad bought such system in March this year. (almost the same spec's for 1000 Euro)
It is fine for desktop publishing and some games but the SiS v-card is really crappy (so don't expect that gta3 will run smooth for example) but for n64 gaming it ok.

And ofcourse a dvd/cd-rw combo is really handy!

For the price it's an OK notebook but if you want to play games on it, the i should say look around for a NB with a better GFX card (Geforce2go 4 or radeaon, they aren't costing that much latetly)

Hope i helped you out

Aye, was surfing for a laptop a bit ago. This is one of the few cases Ebay might actually provide the hands down best deal. Seen (and lost :( ) a P3 800 notebook with geforce2go, 256, 40gb, cd, ect, for 400$. Thats the low of the low end, but you might be able to get a better deal. And 12.1 is SMALL. Get 14 at least, 15 or 16 if you are lucky.

for $900, that seems like a preety good deal, though, like Eagle, Im not a fan of those all in one drives, and depending on what your using it for, 20GB seems resonable.:)

I prey, not pray.
My laptop has a 20 gig drive, I store all of my large files (i.e. rom, iso, mp3, etc) on a linux server with a samba share mounted as n:. The advantage to this setup is that you use far less power because you don't need the cd drive (when you are going out of range of your server, just copy whatever CDs you are going to be using to the local disk), and you don't need a cd burner either (if you see how I am set up, you would never like to even look at a cdr again). If you do it right, 20 gigs isn't even an issue, as it stands I am only using 8 gigs of my local disk.

Lives in ATL, longs for NYC.
You haven't really specified what you're going to use it for.
I agree with the others, 20 gigs is too small, and if you plan on doing hardcore 3d games, you better upgrade higher than 256, and get a good Mobility graphics card.
