Nintendo "to go Sega-like"?

if realistic wasn't the concept why is cel-shading being called "wank" all over this board. and why do people like games with "realistic" blood and runing over hookers. maybe we're talking about different meanings of realistic or realism in different aeras of a game.

As far as I know, most people either like or don't mind the cell shading. And the reason people play GTA3 is because it is fun. If a game was purely based on how much blood there was then everyone would be playing State of Emergency, but they don't because SOE is crap.

I agree that we haven't yet reached the limit of how realistic games can be, but what Nintendo are trying to say is that the GameCube is as powerful as they need to make the games they want to make. And I don't remember people ever saying this about systems pre-16 bit era.

Just by me. :p

You can have a non-realistic game without cel-shading.

At the end of the day, the only people who honestly like cel-shading are the Zelda-fanboys who are trying hard to convince themselves that it looks cool.

But as I said, it dosen't matter if Zelda 'Cube turns out to be shit, because you'll all go and buy it anyway. :p

I just don`t get how anyone can look at those video`s and not already see a shockingly smooth game with great play already apparent. Most people are tripping over themselves to admit they were wrong. NGC`s quote of "...expansion of the N64 versions with the most beautiful graphics ever created" seems to sum up that. Anyone who doesn`t want that has no business being allowed near any game ever again. Or maybe there are those who just can`t admit to playing GAMES any more. Nice scapegoat this one...
Besides, unrealistic never hurt the GTA series. And if we`re Zelda fanboys that`s fine with me, as I`d much rather be known as a fanboy of some of the greatest games ever created. That`s something to be proud of.

i think we're really blowing this out of proportion and that we've all read to deep into this..

in my opinion there is a limit.. sure.. *there is no limit*.. but there is a limit :).. let me explain:

Joe wants a computer not for gaming of any kind.. he wants a computer to surf the net and hang on IRC.. he gets a celeron 500 and is happy with it..

Lenny wants a gaming monster of a computer.. he gets a P3 4 Ghz.. with the latest grafix card and god knows what else..

*** 10 years pass *** (put time transition sounds here)

Joe gets home to his Quantum HomePC 2012.. surfs the net.. downloads some pron.. puts on his visor.. and does stuff we won't even mention.. goes to his buds on Video IRC and chats around with them for a while..

Lenny gets home to his Quantum HomePC 2012 and surfs the net to the Nintendo website.. finished FFXXX and feels all happy inside..
his woman gets home.. sits by another "terminal" for the same HomePC2012 and does the same as her man only diference is she finished FFXXXI instead.. they are both now playing FFXXXII (wich has natural real life envirenment grafix and looks like if you where actually there) thru the same website on the same Quantum HomePC 2012..

Lennys mom shows up with her 5 grandchildren.. they all sitt behind diferent terminals and all log in to the same Quantum HomePC 2012 and log in to the same site to play all together..

at the same time.. Joe wakes up and feels like chekcing up the weather.. he does'nt trust the weather forecast websites though.. instead he decides to make his Quantum HomePC 2012 calculate the global weather forecast wich gives him the results he wants in just 2 seconds.. then he remembers he had found some old encrypted papers at a ruind old shelter from WW3 wich he decides to let his computer decrypt to check out what it was.. then Joe decides to make his computer create itself an impossible to beat AI to play chess with his friend Lennys computer. He is hoping that since Lennys computer is so busy with the whole familly playing FFXXXII it will be slower and he will be able to beat it faster.. ...... he was mistaken..

the end..

hehe.. no but really.. i'm sure we'll have computers so powerfull by 2012 that we'll think of Deep Blue like if it was a crappy calculator hehe.. we won't even kn1ow what upgrading means anymore.. you guys should check out where they've gotten with Quantum Computers..

remember when the P3 came out. we all thought that there would be no more upgrading after that. and if we can imagine life after the Athlon 1.8ghz then what else will there be

heh.. do you remember when you could'nt do square roots on a computer coz it took forever to calculate?.. calculators took a long time to become powerfull enugh to be able to do square roots of abit more complex numbers.. now you can do it on any $1 calculator you find anywhere at the touch of a button.. and it takes less than a second to get the result.. i believe it won't be long till the homePCs we'll have can do what even Deep Blue can't do today.. and they will do this just as fast as calculators of today do the square root.. you don't seem to understand eather way.. sure.. there will ALLWAYS be something better to build.. faster more powerfull.. as i said.. "no limit".. but the limit is in what you need.. will you need a computer that can calculate the fastest route to the most distant planet in the whole universe in one second inside your very own home?.. i doubt it.. that is "the limit" i am talking about.. the need.. there will come a day when we won't need better computers.. know what i mean?.. it won't mean we've hit a sertain limit.. but it will mean we won't need to go any further for our own private home user purpose coz it will be overly surpased even for the extreemest of home users computer purposes..

RatTrap: I doubt that Quantum computers will be easily available to the public by 2012. At the moment they cost millions of dollars to make, can only do a few simple calculations, and then over heat/crash (or whatever the hell they do they makes them fuck up). Plus to make an algorithm that runs on a quantum computer you need to design it completely different from an algorithm that runs on a normal computer. I reckon if we are lucky we will see quantum computers on the market by 2020.

Anyway, back on topic. Nintendo didn't say that computers are at there limit. They pretty much said that Moore's Law (I think that's the one where the number of transistors on a chip double every 18 months) isn't applicable to game making anymore, that's why the they think the life of the GameCube will increase from 5 years to at least 8 years.

computers of a year ago cant play the games of today. Why? because the games of yesterday didn't the technology we have today to be ABLE to run. but now there is a NEED so there is a soultion which is faster pc's and better graphics cards. sure we dont need a 15ghz processor today but who knows what the demand will be tomorrow. as humans we tend to always want results twice as fast as we get them. and we tend to want EVERYTHING twice as good as we have it now. and who says we WONT need to know the fastest route to the furthest planet one day? that info will probally be made avaliable on StarQuest.Com (an update of mapquest) it's all a matter of "Necessity is the Mother of Invention" when an abacus isn't good enough build a calculator. and we will always find a reason to build something faster. it's just in our nature.
