Yeah, but 'PlayStation' is such a powerful brand-name, Sony would be shooting themselves in the foot if they dropped it.

No, I don't think it would.

The PlayStation is now a household brand-name. People who have no clue about video-games still know what a PlayStation is.

The PS2 sold thousands of units because of its name alone.

I'm a Nintendo fanboy, but I think the name sucks too. Nevertheless, a name is just a name; I'm still excited about the console.

They should've just put a "k" in there and teamed up with wikipedia to make the Nintendo: Wikistation.
