Next next next generation..

OK, we've already heard the rumours of PS3, and with the inevitable early grave of the XBox, when can we expect to see the first line of next next next generation machines?

My guess is early PS3 demos by the end of 2004.

another thing is, will consoles last that long?

PErsonally, i think that console systems will continue for many years but there are some people who think pcs will take over soon. I say a few more systems and generations will be released first.

I don't see Nintendo surviving much longer than maybe the next two console generations, they might start making software for other consoles a la Sega. X-Box has flopped, but MS has the money to keep on trying till they succeed, it just depends on how determined they are. Sony will keep on increasing marketshare.

My forcast for the next few years.

I prey, not pray.
You gotta remember, microsoft said that even if the xbox was a dismal failure (profit wise yes, but popularity wise I doubt it will be), they would still release an xbox 2, and even an xbox 3.

They have $30 billion in cash reserves, I don't doubt that statement for a second. They want the market.

Are you sure it won't be a world domination/mind control box 2 Alpha? :)

Anyway... It'd be nice to see the handheld market actually get a GBVR or something that actually has the use of 3d-graphics. They could probably fit mario 64 on a small cartridge now, couldn't they?

so they will just be plugging in updated video cards, probably the nv30 no doubt, or just an enhanced version of it, but its true though, pc's have the potential to take consoles out completely considering how updateable they are compared to consoles, but then again, there are idiots out there that refuse to update there computer cause they either lack the knowledge or they don't have enough money;)

no, ive heard that pc game sales are dipping due to low buying rates and piracy. also, youve forgotten the fun of multiplayer console gaming, probably the thing that is responsible for selling around %70 of consoles today. i dont think they'll ever die, just become more integrated with other appliances

Fun of multiplayer console gaming? PCs take that to the next level and allow you to play with someone clear across the planet. Only up until recently, consoles were unable to do this.

I've heard that the PS2 was a mere prototype of what we can expect from PS3.

About the future of Gameboy mentioned above, I would have to think that for the next generation Nintendo "sees the light" with regard to carts of any kind and comes up with an enclosed disc format like the MD minidisc. The MD is popular in japan because they have enough sense over there to know a good thing when they see it. The encased MD has all the storage capacity od Cd's PLUS the toughness of a cart. If you don't know what an MD is, imagine a CD that's in a shell like a floppy disk. No scratches. A "microdisc" could run inside the next gen Gameboy and it wouldn't be such a difficult thing to produce an accessory add-on zif socket for the old cart games.
