Hello there!

Well, Mario Party 3 was working just fine, but I updated DirectX and my video drivers and now no rom works... I get mostly black screens with the occasionnal weird color and/or texture-less model...

I checked around this forum and see a lot of talk about various plug-ins but I'm terribly confused. I suppose I need one, but how can I know which one to use?

Thanks in advance! I know it's probably the 10,000th time you get that question... If the answer is already posted elsewhere, please let me know. :)

Now I feel bad...

As usual, just a few moment after posting for help, I ended up solving the problem by myself. (I need a smiley hitting itself with a wooden plank...) I switched "Render Engine" from DirectX to OpenGL... whatever that means... *confused*

However, I still run into problems with various roms, so I'd appreciate any tips you could give me. :) Here are the info:

AMT Athlon 1.10G
512 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX (a little old, but does the job allright) with drivers 5.2.1.6 (2003-10-06)
DirectX 9.0b
Running WindowsXP Pro

Some games work, some don't... Is there an easy way to spot if the problem is on the rom or on my end? :(

I have a lot to learn...

**Edited to add: Is there such a thing as a newbie guide for 1964 settings, so that I don't start plaguing the forum with questions?**

Try updating your video drivers to 53.03 and see if that helps. Also if you aren't using it already try rice's newest version of his plugin.

Xbox N64 Emulation Fanatic
Try Jabo's plugin, get it here
http://pj64.emulation64.com/iedefault.htm
unzip pj64_1_5.exe
and get the service pack and unzip that in the PJ64 directory

then copy the plugins directory to the 1964 directory and start 1964 select Jabo's plugin and fire away.

Also Rice's latest plugin see sticky
and of course try pj64 as it's a pretty fine emu in it's own rights.

Just get an analog pad they make all the difference (I use a PSX pad)
Have an adaptiod just no working N64 pads :-(

The newest nvidia drivers (56.64) will solve this problem. It will allow you to use Rice's Video Plugin 5.4.3b with directx (which is faster than opengl) without all of those weird errors.

The newest drivers which were released 3 days ago give you good results. You may also want to try Jabos D3D plugins.
