The Adaptoid is a N64 controller to USB interface. With other words, you connect your N64 controller to the The Adaptoid, which is connected to one of your USB ports in your computer. As easy as it sounds.

After I had ripped up the small package in which the The Adaptoid was sent, I quickly screened through the installation instructions, before I connected the The Adaptoid. I had of course downloaded the latest Adaptoid drivers before I started as well. The installation program asked for my Windows 98 CD, but basically, that was all that was needed to get going.

I assume that most people who visit Emulation64 on a daily basis are using N64 emulators. Most N64 emulators have very good controller support, and here's where the Adaptoid is getting real sweet. Can you imagine playing N64 games on your computer with your N64 controller? The feeling is amazing, I can tell you that.

Wish Technologies are releasing new drivers every so often, and the latest release improves rumble support in PC games. Talking about PC games...the Adaptoid is great for PC games as well. The first game I tried with the The Adaptoid was Half-Life, and although I prefer playing games like Half-Life with the keyboard and the mouse, the N64 controller is the best non-keyboard controller I have played it with so far.

Another game I tried it with was The Need for Speed 3, and the precise stick of the N64 controller gave me the chills. One thing the The Adaptoid has that many other N64 to PC adaptors is rumble pak support. The Rumble Pak works excellent, I've tested it with many games with different N64 emulators. If you want to take a look at all games supporting rumble pak, click here. What's even great with the The Adaptoid's rumble support is that it works with all PC games that support force feedback! Plug in your N64 controller into the The Adaptoid, slap in the Rumble Pak, and get force feedback in games like for example Need For Speed 2: Hot Pursuit 2. You can adjust the rumble strength by pressing L+R+Z+Start on your N64 controller.

The Adaptoid uses the N64 controller's stick as the primary axix control by default, but you can change this at any time to use the D-pad as the primary axis control by holding he L+R+Z buttons on the controller and by pressing the D-pad up 3 times. To return to using the stick as the primary control, hold the L+R+Z buttons and press the stick up 3 times. Very easy and useful.

Conclusion: The Adaptoid have nothing but great features, and it takes advantage of all the N64 controllers advantages over other, normal PC controllers. The N64 controller is known as maybe the best controller all categories, and why buying a PC controller that isn't half as good, yet twice as expensive as a The Adaptoid? The Adaptoid is yours for only $26.95 (MSRP $29.95) and is definitely a must-have. Emulation64 approved. :)

I'm totally agree with Martin's review, I have an adaptoid and is working very good, as Martin says playing N64 games that are perfectly emulated (like Zelda OoT) with an N64 controller is awesome, you feel like you are playing with a real N64, it also works very good with games, for me is perfect with GTA3 and Hot Pursuit 2. It really worth it price

Yeah, that is pretty cool, but why not just play those games on your N64? Are you saying you don't own that game? See, I own Perfect Dark, and the reason I want it emulated is so I can play it with a mouse and keyboard. We all know the mouse and keyboard is the best controller for FPS games.

Mine arrived yesterday and i'll test it tonight, I bought the psx/n64 converter and had nothing but agro, it couldn't align the analogue correctly/pressed all kidnsa buttons etc..

Here's hoping wishtech carry on producing high calibur products such as this for those of us who like our console pads!

... and its official, this = the best thing i've bought for my pc all year, im finally starting to get good times/scores in 1080 and F-ZERO-X again because i dont have to sit through plugging my n64 in just to play them... and theyre in high res!

Never been an easier to install, out of the box product so worth your money, if you like the n64 games you have but cant be bothered plugging it in and dusting it off.. this is for you

Just had to write that I too reckon the Adaptoid is a top notch piece of hardware. It works brilliantly, and is a no brainer to set up - and it really is plug and play with N64 emulators :)

In fact I am getting into games I have never played much before now I have an adaptoid, for ex. lots of Wrestling games, Zelda + Smash Brothers (which I could never get into using a sidewinder, go figure?)

The Khan Artist

Warrior for God
I look forward to the day when the only difference between a PC and the N64 is the display quality... basically, an N64 with HDTV-quality graphics. The Adaptoid brings one step closer. :D

The only major problem right now is accurate sound... no emu/plugin combo I've tried has been able to give perfect sound at 60 VIs/sec. I can get perfect sound, but the games usually sync slightly off. :(

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about buying the adaptoid but don't know where to buy it from? Do you get it off ebay?

Has anyone tried this on a laptop because i will be using this mostly on it?

Sure it can. Using the Adaptoid, your N64 controller acts like any other controller you would hook up to your computer. :)

Hey guys just a follow up on the adaptoid because i received it yesterday. This is one of the best items i've bought for my laptop.

It is awesome! It was heaps easy to plug in and it worked straight away.

I've already tried it out on Zsnes, VBA, ePSXe and of course P64. And i've had no problems.

It really gave the feel of playing OOT on the real 64 again!

Anyone thinking about getting it, it is definitely worth the money.
