I was wondering if its possible to play n64 on ps2? using cd/dvd?

if no.. is it possible to run an emulator on the ps2 with linuxed installed..

so i would install linux on the ps2, the official ps2 linux, then install project64 and roms on a harddrive....

would linux recognize the usb adapters? would i be able to install P64? and is it possible to install a different linux or maybe even windows xp on the ps2?

people prefer to use the Dreamcast for emulation

lol, that's not fully true.

the psp has a far larger amount of emulators available for it, + a working n64 emulator and a larger fan base.

So i would say if the psp can emulate it, the ps2 could (not that anyone is making or going to make a n64 emulator for the ps2)

PSP is a handheld, I don't care. I was talking about consoles.
And PSP have a larger fan base because it's a seventh generation handheld, Dreamcast is a sixth generation console and support on America and Europe died in 2002.

Oh also Dreamcast have a Saturn emulator (Yabause-DC), I don't see Saturn emulators for PSP. Maybe the PSP power is not enough

lol, maybe people just cant be arsed coding a emulator thats never even going to reach 20fps (on dreamcast or psp)

If an N64 emulator were ever written for PS2, I think there would be quite a bit of room for optimization due to the PS2 having an almost backward-compatible instruction set with the N64, but a CPU is only part of a console, so it would still be an enormous undertaking. I think with a lot of work it would probably perform better than some might think. (Don't forget, the Gamecube was able to emulate the N64 at full speed for some games - and although the Gamecube is more powerful than the PS2, it's CPU is also completely different from an N64's, unlike a PS2's CPU.) I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for someone to try it though.

well thanks for the input but none asnwers any of my original questions..
im more than willing to try it.. but before i do...

CAN THE OFFICIAL PS2 LINUX SUPPORT Project64?
CAN THE OFFICIAL PS2 LINUX SUPPORT USB control adapter(specifically the psx/n64 boom adapters)?
CAN I install a different linux or even windows xp on it?and will that OS support p64/usb?

>CAN THE OFFICIAL PS2 LINUX SUPPORT Project64?

First of all you'd need to also run Wine or some such program on it, you'd then need to run PJ64 in that. With 32mb ram you've got no chance at all.

See above

>CAN I install a different linux or even windows xp on it?and will that OS support p64/usb?

More chance of pigs flying than being able to install a PJ64 compliant OS on a PS2, XP runs on a different processor architecture, requires a minimum of 64mb ram amongst a plethora of other issues.

So to answer all the questions, no chance.

Actually it's possible to get at least 'playable' speed. But Yabause-DC only got two updates (last update in December 2006), and it's not easy.
Again, you failed.

Not to mention Wine is for x86 (and maybe x64?) processors only, or at least that is how it used to be when I last checked.

Maybe you could get interest in porting to PS2 linux by getting sponcers for a prise like was done on porting to XBox.

Maybe someone could port Daedalus to PS2. PS2's CPU is decently faster (multi-issue) and has 64bit registers so it would be possible to make it more efficient there. You might also be able to use the upper portions of the registers for fast storage, and the scratchpad RAM maybe.
