N64 Emulation to HDtv for multiplayer parties!

Has enyone here ever tried this?

I have dabbled in N64 emulation since having my crappy eMachine 900MHz computer - recently built myself a gaming machine and discovered true bliss! I can run N64 games @ 1280 by 1024 with incredibly smooth framerates, including Goldeneye and Perfect Dark!

So a friend of mine is a big Goldeneye fan. He won a college GE tournament several years back, and he really liked the idea of getting together again and playing some good ol' four-player.

His dad has a big widescreen HDtv that outputs, I think, 720p. So I figure "what the heck?" why not connect a PC to the television and enjoy four-player Rareware shooters at smooth framerates in high definition?

So has anyone done this before? I need to get a few Adaptoids I guess. But I think it would be great.

PS: Hi, everyone! I'm new here... first post. :)

Probably possible - what inputs does the TV have on it and what outputs does your graphics card have on it?

EDIT: BTW, welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the hospitality!

Fortunately his TV has a DVI input and both of our videocards have DVI output. So I can't imagine that there would be any issues getting the TV to display it in high-def... then I could just use the TV as a glorified computer monitor and run an emu from there.

Just the idea of playing PD and GE in 720p @ 60fps on a 72 inch screen with a few friends... I think it should be fun!

Sounds like all you need is a DVI cable and to change around the proper resolution settings to make it work. I don't have any personal experience, but like you said, from the computer's perspective it should just be like plugging in a different monitor.

Wow, the fact that your HDTV has a DVI input means that you should be getting amazing video quality, congrats :). I only use S-Video, which is the 3rd best option after DVI :( (2nd best being component, worst being composite).

The other thing you need is sound. Assuming you want to use your TV speakers, you can hook up your soundcard output to regular RCA (red/white) jacks, with a stereo mini-jack (1/8") to RCA Y-adapter. Y, because the cable looks like a Y.

Ya its possible and ive done it. its a piece of cake. Like the guy above said, all you need is a dvi or svideo connector on your video card that goes to the tv.

I hope you grab some pics of the setup and post them. Cool to see your cabling and layout. Good content for an article on a website.
