My other computer...

I also have another computer in my possession that runs at:
-~751 mhz
-256 mb RA<
-another NVIDIA Vanta LT (i guess it's crappy but oh well)
-again a sound card w/o buffering (hardware)

It runs fairly well for its specs. Basically, I want to know why the sound is stuttery and what to do about it. The frame rate is perfect (~60 fps at NTSC). When I play games like Half-Life or Counter-Strike they play very well (and believe me they run much more of the system than emulation). So, would buffering really solve my problem, I know I'm bent on this buffering SOB. Like I've said before, using Azimer's old v0.30 plugin with high buffering on some games (Starfox64) at a lower resolution would run great sound. But, my FPU is fairly good (ran a diagnostic at a local computer repair shop to see my exact stats) and does LAGG just the smallest bit on Goldeneye. I'm really pi**ed off due to this not working. I know that everything is running with sys. resources to spare even on this old thing. Please give any remedy possible!!! Oh yeah, saying my computer runs "reeel slow" doesnt really help!

use Jabo's DirectSound plugin (1.4) and make sure sync audio is off. if it's still skippy, it's probably hardware related. i used to have an 800mhz machine w/ a crappy sound card and i had similar problems. decent sound cards aren't that expensive right now.

Sorry, but... saying the P4's reeel slow is sort of true...

This is taken from Smiff's site:

What is the recommended CPU for PJ64?
Simply, the faster the better. To run games full speed on the interpreter (i.e. maximum compatibility) you're looking at a P3/P4/K7 @ at least 1.5Ghz (probably much more), by my calculation. Warning - although the P4 should be ideal for PJ64, it actually has severe issues with it as of June 2001 (low speed, poor sound have been reported), so it not recommended at this time. Target CPU was P3.

What is an ideal CPU for PJ64?
Either an Intel Pentium 3 1Ghz, or a P3 running at whatever speed you can overclock it to :), or an AMD Athlon Thunderbird @ 1.5Ghz, or again, whatever speed you can overclock it to. Note that current Athlons do not support SSE, but their brute FPU speed makes up or more than makes up for this.

Now, let's see what we all mean, shall we?

Note, in this pic, you're looking at FPU, not iSSE2 (where, clearly, the Pentium 4 beats the Pentium 3, however... few current applications make use of SSE2, and PJ64 is not one of them)

Umm, yeah

Well, since I'm not sure if it's my sound card or not, can you tell me a good sound card to buy and it's price?

It's not the sound card, when using Project64, the CPU's FPU really takes a toll into overall emulation. If the FPS meter is not at 60 (or 50 depending on region) then you will not be getting perfect or near perfect sound. If you're using Azi's audio plugin, you could try clicking on options, Configure RSP Plugin, and click send Audio Lists to Audio Plugin. Azimer's audio plugin is one of the few that make use of this, so... If you switch back to the standard audio plugin, make sure to un-tick this as well...

This MAY help. What it does is help free up some of the CPU to do emulate other critical areas (like the R4300i)
