But, unfortunately, Opera seems to be incompatible with some web sites I go to. :(

Opera fails to display the Synapse applet, which is Flash-based at mixsig.net properly.
I dunno why.:plain:

Unfortunately, Opera seems to be incompatible with some web sites I go to.

When a website fails to work properly with Opera use the 'Mask as Internet Explorer" option. Then it will work.

That just changes how it identifies itself.

Right, and therefore, how it executes scripts on the page... at least, thats what it seems to be. So, a page would display its content, through different browsers, using different methods based on what the browser identifies itself as.

Try using Google Spreadsheets (in Google Labs) with Opera... "browser not supported, taking over the world, blah google blah"... now, right-click>>edit site preferences>>'network' tab>>mask as IE.... wala! Worky.

Yeah. It's a common, but bad practice, for websites to script based on browser detects. It is a lot better to detect supported Javascript features, rather than the whole whopping browser. Tsk tsk Google, I'm disappointed! :p

To cope with outdated detection methods or poorly built websites, Opera enables users to change the information that is sent to websites to identify what kind of browser is being used -- known as the user-agent. In previous years, Opera came preconfigured to partially "cloak" itself as Internet Explorer, but still included the word "Opera" in the user-agent information allowing the browser to be counted in web statistics. As websites modernized themselves and Opera 9 became more compatible with IE code, Opera began to use its own identification by default.
