well that was a disappointment (sp?). Mulholland Drive. either i'm too stupid, or it made no sense, or i need to see it again... either way i'm not too keen. Kinda get the feeling he's trying to be too clever, one of those you feel pressured to say you like, hmm. But then I saw Blue Velvet ("erotic thriller" - uh oh) but found it less erotic, more thriller.. good stuff... i think maybe Lynch became a "parody of himself" at some point (?). More "research" needed ;)

I saw "Ringu" yesterday (American people might know its US remake, called "The Ring"). Seriously, it's one of the scariest movies I've ever seen.

permit me to say "sweeeeeeeeeeeet!"

How good is it? I've heard that this is one of those that in 20 years will be considered a classic :)

Either way I have to see this movie:D

I wouldn't call it a classic. It's not bad. Not as good as I expected. But then not very many films are. :p

It's pretty freaky to see an *empty* London, anyway.

I'd give it a 6, maybe 7 out of ten.

not really erotic, but dennis hopper became a cult icon villian from than film. he was fucking awesome - a little quote "mummmmmy.....daddy wants to fuck" hehe, seriously fucked up shit.

mulholland drive actually does make sense, but its difficult to see the first time round. its about a few things, firstly its put into 2 halves. the first half is where an actress comes to hollywood for a career and discovers an estranged women who has lost her memory hiding in her aunts house in hollywood. u later find out in the second half that this is all a dream. the aspiring actress is in fact a really unsuccessful actress in hollywood, who's inability to deal with failure, and the fact that her lesbian lover (whom in her dream is the confused lost women) is much more successful and doesnt really love her. the whole general plot is a contrast with her dreams to be a successful actress, portrayed in the first half (also combined with her jealousy and hatred of her successful lover) and reality, where she is really just a poor actress trying to succeed but not doing too good. the other plot is about hollywood itself. in the dream everything is perfect and over exagerated, and u get the constant feeling that nothing is as it seems. in club silencio everything is revealed to be 'a recording', nothing is real and everything is an illusion (quite ironic as this is explained during the main character's dream). u might notice that at the end it says 'silencio...sshhhh' - cleverly, this is a joke to the audience telling them not to reveal what they have learnt in the film about hollywood. if u watch the film again, u will see how most things fits, although parts of it make no sense, and parts just merely merge together. this is a typical lynch thing to do. the whole bit with the tramp with the blue box has no real explanation, although the significance of the box has many. also, the film was meant to be broadcasted as a series on tv, but ABC refused to air it, so he made it into a film, and ended up making part of the script up as he went along, which is pretty funny in itself cos thats why some things make no sense at all.

the whole point of his films is not to look for the twist, or expect anything, becos the films are always a mess in themselves. u dont find many other directors risking money to make films like this. not everyone like them because they dont have a straight story or ending to them. they are just generally bizarre.

i suggest reading this article, cos it explains most of what the film is about, and where it connects. http://archive.salon.com/ent/movies/feature/2001/10/23/mulholland_drive_analysis/

also a good read

now if u really wanna see a weird film, then try 'Lost Highway', although it is sometimes a bit too crazy for most ppl who watch it.

i cant believe they've had to remake it, the remake is blatently shite.
