More reason to hate WinXP

AlphaWolf

I prey, not pray.
This only effects internet explorer and outlook express users. Anybody who doesn't use any of microsofts middleware has no reason to install SP1, as its security fixes are only relavent to those. (in fact 99% of microsofts security fixes are only relavent to those)

But if you do use IE, be careful and remember what that article points out about the EULA, which requires you to download any update that microsoft says it wants you to download. (and don't think you can block these updates easily, as it also re-enables the automatic update service if you disable it)

I myself will not be downloading any further updates from windowsupdate, I recommend everybody else do so as well if they don't use IE or OE.

I just found out that the SWT university library can check out a copy of Windows XP (fully legit) allow you to copy it and give you your own legit licence free! You have to be a student of course but they have a payed for agreement with M$ allowing them to do this with any M$ software. SO I can get Studio.Net (if I wanted it), Office, WIndows, you name it fully legal, and absolutely free + plus the cost of a couple recordable CDs.

I agree. I gave up OE long ago, and I recently started using mozilla (again).

my university can do the exact same thing eagle's can, because microsoft made a deal with my university is giving us money, computers, and software in trade for them teaching c#

These arent the only ones. A lot of them are doing this. UT does it but they charge $5 per CD to copy them for you. SWT checks them out like a library book and lets you copy them yourself.

i've finally gotten fully used to xp, and it's great, but you have to tweak it alot.

anybody who's not using the latest mozilla, is either:

a. lazy
b. stupid
c. ignorant.

take your pick, or go and download it, cause it absolutely TROUNCES ie in every way i can think of. and it's being updated furiously and will soon be even better.

whoa thats sweet dude, just wish my college had stuff like that to lend out/copy legally oh well.

I hate it when ppl diss windows xp when they havent really tried it themselves/barely tried it. Win XP kicks ass :)

BTW thanx for the all the advice about XP SP1, i dont think i'll get it cuz it sounds pretty buggy

?????????????????????????
Actually, games weren't too happy with 2k either. Sound got messed up, etc...
XP is better in gaming. Yet, that seems to be mostly the only good thing about XP vs 2k

yep definatly, Xp is more like an improved version of windows 2000 and with more win 9x stuff like quite a nice compatability with win 9x stuff to make it gr8 for win9x users, and have the excellent win2000 stababilty, definatly a must for any Pc user

"ie is bad. opera/mozilla pwn it!"

name me 5 bad things about IE6SP1 please?

and no "it's unsecure!" bs either, i'm sure opera/mozilla are just as insecure or even moreso, but their exploits dont get thrown around in the public eye to keep them as a worthy competator to ie6sp1
