Microsoft Office 2007

I've been testing Office 2007 for a few months now, and from what I've experienced it's one hell of a nice update. The new UI is kinda odd to get used too but it really is a nice change after using it for a while, I've found it quicker to work with and overall its a nice kind of experience.

It's nice to see some innovation in things like office suites which have been so stagnant for ages and have had a standard design in regards to layout, etc.

Last week they released Beta2, and is public, so everyone can download it. My download is almost finished, but according to reviews (and now Quvack too) the changes in the UI are smart and really good!

MS will release a public Beta2 of Vista as well in a few days. So will be able to test all the improvements included in the previous CTPs that weren't released to the public since Beta1

I'm curious as to what chanes they've made save for the savvy new GUI. I've had it installed for a couple of days, though I've never thoroughly tested them yet.

I'm not really that sure to be honest lol I've only used it for the same kinda stuff I've always used office for which is usually just the basic features.

It seems most useless stuff from what I've read on the Office site. New file format; incompatible with old one. But introduces new features with how things are saved... and a new GUI to quickly access things. Or so it is supposed to be.

Microsoft will release beta 2 to developers/IT Professional without the need of a subscription soon. Or so it states on their homepage.

Beta 2 is already available for everyone

UPDATE:

I already tested it a little so I have some things to say

- The installation program looks fresher.
- I still don't get used to the new UI, but it's indeed better and it's a better concept.
- The Windows are different to normal WinXP GUI (something like Windows Live Messenger if you have trie the Beta). The buttons and menus have a little animations as well
- There's a pop menu to re-format your text when you make a selection that I liked very much.
- I'm using the spanish version Beta2, however there still some un-translated text (it's ok since it's a Beta) but it feels weird.
- Yes, Office 2007 has a new format, however it has a tool to check if there are incompatibilities in the document with the previous format, so it's a good idea
- I haven't noticed weird bugs yet

I recommend you guys to give it a try. If I downloaded with my 56k connection, why you shouldn't?
That's all for now. I'm giving you a pic for you to give you an idea of the new UI

Oh goodness, 56k?
What's this "re-format" that you write about? I don't get it.
I wonder if microsoft solved the old bugs that has persisted since a long time...
The only problem I have with it now is that there are no proofing tools. It's going to be hard to write a document in your native language if you're not downloading a localized version. English is okay, though.
Also, there is an option to store your documents in the older Word format. It will disable some of the new functions, though, but it will gaurantee it works in older versions of Word.

- I have 56k at my apartment here in San José with my old P4 1.6 Ghz PC. The computer specs stated in the signatur eis the PC I have back at home. I mainly use the connection to check ot my e-mail

- Re-format? I mean when you select some text, a very little pop-up window will appear just next to the text you selected with the Bold, Italic, and Underline and other buttons to give format to your text
- My Beta version is in spanish. There are only a few things that are not translated but is not a big problem. You can notice that in the avove picture.
- About the format stuff, that's obvious :p

I used beta 1 previously and found the new interface confusing (partly because every previous edition of office had somewhat a same layout and features) but didn't really notice that my productivity was increased with the new layout and didn't see a whole lot of new features that really help make office work easier. I'll grab the beta 2 just in case though.

I am on 56k too, and I'll get it too. ;)

Be prepared! It will take days literally. I leaved the PC on overnight downloading it. I don't know why, but this connection is rock-solid stable (yeah slow but stable). But be sure to have a good download manager

looks pretty cool
its just that we're probably get tired of the blue things
does it changes colors like office 2003 ??

I still haven't trying changing colors. The program needs activation. But you shouldn't worry about it Miretank, if you download from MS, they will give you an official product key for installing it.

UPDATE: It has two color schemes. Luna (the bluish stated in the above screenshot) and Obsidian that is basically a black scheme

Surprise, surprise… none of the good old bugs seems to be fixed. Heck, do some grammatical error or spelling error. Right click and select ignore. Then do some other error just nearby or after. The text you ignored will once more turn up as an error. Wonder of wonders.
