Mario no longer up to date?!

From The MagicBox (www.the-magicbox.com):

- Nintendo president Satoru Iwata mentioned that they are working on a new mascot character, which will replace both Mario and Pokemon in the future. The reason is that both Mario and Pokemons are no longer up-to-date.

Hmm...are they serious? Sure, the latest mario game wasn't all that good, but it wasn't the character which was the problem. Pokemon is selling like hotcakes, or was anyways...so why this? Are they digging their own grave?

I can see why the are distancing themselves from Pokemon as they are trying to appeal more to the mature end of the market, but looking to replace Mario is just stupid. Is'nt this guy the same one who commented on Nintendo no longer manufacturing Games Consoles and just concentrating on games?

They are right. Miyamoto is too old already, his latest games show this.

Uh... what? Please elaborate.

Most of his "latest games" (i.e. Mario Sunshine) weren't directed by him.

Stop this man, I hate it when people say this or that person is too old and should quit. It is not their fault they are old, and most of Miyamoto's new games are excellent IMO, I do agree that Nitendo should focus more on on mature audiences though.

Miyamoto directed Eternal Darkness too, and I found that game terrific

Miyamoto had practically NOTHING to do with Mario Sunshine or Wind Waker. I don't think he makes (in any sense of the word other than pay for) any new games.

Come on, look at miyamoto's latest games like pikmin and co. I have tried them, they held my interest for around 5 minutes. He needs a break to gather some inspiration.

I would like to second this for every single game I've played recently, except Ikaruga which is an arcade port...

every peon who is linked to the gaming industry (developers reports, consumers, fans) expects Nintendo to solve it

At your service, dood!
Pikmin is a brilliant game imo, only downside is it only lasted me a week.

whats not fun about rallying 100 pikmin to defeat a massive monster.

I third it if it helps. I only play Pro Evo 2 now. Maybe I'm growing out of games. A lot of games I have bought I have had no inclination to finish, eg. Zelda WW.

Hmm... five minutes of Pikmin = you did NOTHING in the game. It takes around 15 minutes before you actually get to the "game" and stop fucking around in the first day, in which nothing really happens - it's just there to introduce you to the basic mechanics.

I actually finished pikmin in two days, gathering all parts and wasting time killing pikmins and so (just for fun). But I haven't touch that game since that...

Oh .. and does anyone want to buy an almost new pikmin game?

Nintendo's not fixing anything, they are riding the wave of a flush.

If the rest of the industry is waiting for Nintendo....we are in a lot of trouble.

Yes, and I think they'll all need a better solution than "let's cel-shade it". :satisfied
