If terminal-based programs turn you off, you're going to have quite a time with Linux. I think one of the biggest reasons Linux isn't more popular than it is is because it doesn't have all the handy 'wizards' that Windows does to make simple tasks simple. Most people prefer not to have to even touch the keyboard when installing programs, which presents a problem in most Linux distros.

Everyone else: Anyhow, I'm using ubuntu right now, updated to dapper drake, and I can't stress enough how much of a pain in the ass it is to get xgl working on amd64 with nvidia, gah, but it is beautiful, I spent most of saturday dragging windows around the screen One bone to pick that I've yet to solve, or find a solution to, azureus' tray error messages, can't click on them damnit, so they just sit there forever!

Jakob: uh whats -uvh or with capital U? I just want to install a rpm but i think i found out how. Plus i learn basic install comands for terminal and installed codecs and some more progs.

blacklord: do rpm --help in a terminal window, it will list off the functions of each possible switch, though u means upgrade, v is verbose(lots of "descriptive" output) and I don't recollect h.

Miretank: I've used various distro's off and on for years actually, last time around was gentoo, though at that point I still used to play games periodically and use photoshop more, and I've had the azureus problem before at various times, though I don't remember the solution, probably just an incompatibility with sun java and gnome, I have a faint recollection that blackdown java fixed it before, but I'm too lazy to fix it and a simple restart of azureus rids me of the message.

As to gaming, dgen and snes9x work flawlessly, as do ports of many of my favourite games from past years, plus every version of ut has a port
