As promised, I have released my biggest homebrew game yet!, : Legend Of Hyrule : Linkens Quest v1.0 :D

The first level is completly finished, and with too many features to list.......:p

The game is a prime example of what can be achived in lua coding if you put the time and effort in :D

Both myself and PSPDemon (gfx designer) have spent a unreal time on this game......between us doing 6 all-dayers and all-nighters to get this done.

Development took about 2 1/2 weeks to complete.

Now...I hope you enjoy it :p

Im tired....i stayed up 2 days straight to get this finished.....might go to bed in a minute

Its packaged with the lua player so you can play it :p
readme included on how to play/load :D
this is the pc version btw, psp version also available from dcemu......no ds version yet!

please give feedback :D

Isn´t Link out of scale when compared to Zelda?

I mean, he looks like a Hobbit. :)

Sorry, good luck with your game, i hope to see it develops and get ported to DS. :D

Doomulation

?????????????????????????
It's impossible to read the dialogue. It keeps changing text. Sometimes to a former dialogue text? And often too fast. And the window is too small.
What about the options in the beginng? Are you supposed to be able to do something with them?
And what's this about calling the hero "Linken?"

I'd have created a female character called Linkann. There are problems with this game, for one the opening menu doesn't respond to the arrow keys, secondly I read the same paragraphs of text about 3 times they disappeared and came back 2 seconds later! and theres no skip button, there should be.

well, i dont have a clue what your all on about......the text boxes work perfectly, it never changes back to the old text.....unless you interact with the character again...

and there was no point in making the menu interactive becuase those features were insignificant and useless at this stage

and yeah shizzy i will :p

Doomulation

?????????????????????????
In the beginning text, it does it all the time. Before you can control the character, that is. Oh, but I never got that far, because I got bored that I couldn't read the text and the window was too small.

Couldnt read the text? go to specsavers man, cus that text is easy to read.

My cousin wears glasses. and he took them off and still could read it very eaislly......

wtf are you on about

Doomulation

?????????????????????????
It's too fast, dammit and when you use 1920 x 1200 resolution, text *DOES* become small.
*AND* it displays previous text and weirdness.
Get your facts ready before complaining on someone.

You are handling the situation very poorly, what you're supposed to do is say something like "i'll investigate", you do some testing and determine whether or not something is broken or not. Since both me and Doom have complained about the same things it is not an isolated incident.

The text at the beginning, some paragraphs show up more than once - that is our claim. You shouldn't also expect everyone to be running the same way you do, I could be running a 1280x1024 or a 800x600 PC or running it on my PSP, If you do all your testing on your psp then you won't understand it from a PC persons point of view because while that may look good on a psp it certainly does not on a PC.

We're trying to help you make the product of yours better by pointing out bugs and glitches, you're not exactly winning us over by acting like a jerk. Btw, on my native res of 1280x1024 it does look a little small on my screen; I guess what I'm saying is can't you make it go full screen or have it double size for PC (Like a zoom?)

well. your not all exactly pointing out bugs, mainly criticsing, theres a difference..

I dont mind some contructive criticsm, but not needless comments...

Its been made mainly for the psp, so it will always be a small screen....

I know what you mean about it but, as i said its made for the psp so its not really a concern of mine........

I only made a pc version so that people without a psp could play it too....

also, where has the friendlyness of this forum gone? It used to be a place of warmth and welcome, but now its more of a shut up and listen kind of place.....especially to new people who join....

Go to dcemu and read anything there.....then anything here, and you will see what i mean about the difference of community......dcemu is about as good as it gets, warm welcoming and freindly

also i dont like the way that just becuase you guys have a lot of posts (doomulation 7,174) (scott jc 2,538) you think you are better or above everyone else....
Im not intimidated by you at all, i dont care if you had 70,000 posts, it doesnt make you any better than me or anyone else

Zion, i believe you´re taking this the wrong way, it is not that we are not gratefull for your release here nor that we do not aprecciate your work, we do.

The thing is that they came with a legitimate claim, that the text appears twice and the screen seems small to them.

You gave out a PC version so ppl will use it, if you have no intention to fix the PC version and you work is focused on the PSP one, let us know so we will test it on PSP and bug you not with the PC version.

The post count thing out of proportion, no one here has privileges or bragging rights over post count and after reading the thread again, no one imposed post count on you, they just came with a two bugs on the PC version.

You basically proved my point with your reply. That being you're not taking it like an author should and that will be your downfall.

Doomulation and me never even mentioned our post counts so I dunno where you're getting that from. As for the friendliness of this community the way you act in it is part of the problem not part of the solution. Go ahead and be intimidated I've been a member of this forum three years longer than you! Hell I'm intimidated by doomulation, his post count really proves how often he posts here so that makes him scary, yessssss.... I'm so scared of a number.

Last but not least, the best for last: Criticism, ok then let me enlighten you, you post something for the public, what do you expect? actually from our point of view it was bugs but publicly you're opening yourselves to criticism and this happens to everyones releases... you think zilmar doesn't get criticized about Project64? WRONG. Everything you say or do gets you criticism so you shouldn't expect everyone to always be on your side.

Zion, if you make/code a game or any piece of software and make it public, you automatically subject your work to public scrutiny and criticism. If you can't take criticism then why go public with your work at all?

You should respect constructive criticism and see it as a catalyst to make your game/program better regardless of what platform you originally intended the software to be on.

No one I've seen in this thread has given nothing but constructive critiscism and pointed a number of flaws. You should thank them for being so perceptive and taking the time to test the game instead of getting defensive.

"Other people are not like your cousin". It's the same thing when game developers don't just test it on their own hardware (or friends') and claim the game to be golden material; beta testers have the last word.

People always love their own creations more than other people do, Zion this game of yours might be A+ awesome to you but you really have to listen to people because you are too biased on the subject... you'd be happy with anything. If you listen to people's criticisms you can make it better and people will thank you for it.

I mean, if you didn't want us to tell you what we thought of your little game then why did you release it?
Development took about 2 1/2 weeks to complete.
I hate to break it to you but rome wasn't built in a day, it takes a long time to make a great game and 2 weeks isn't that long, i'm working on a shoot em up style game (been about 3 weeks since I started it) but personally I think its crap, too unbalanced. I am capable of criticizing my own creations and accepting its flaws, screenshot of it attached - Since i'm posting this i'm giving you the oppertunaty to criticize it. I don't care, i'm thinking of packing this project in anyway :p

My project still leaves a lot to be desired as does yours but thats not uncommon with younger projects. Don't take criticisms too personally your game has potential, build on it. I should do the same with mine. If you can't get over the criticism don't post your stuff in the publics eye its as simple as that.

Believe it or not I am trying to be helpful.
