I'm running a decent machine...

Windows XP
Pentium 4 - 1.8GHz
512 RAM
GeForce4 Ti 4600

...but my sound is chopped to hell on almost all the games I've played like Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Road Rash, and Mortal Kombat Trilogy (for some reason Duke Nukem is fine though). I'm also experiencing pretty bad gameplay lag in action and character swapping. I've been playing MKT a ton in the past few days, and it seems like the lag is slightly cumulative. Is there any kind of cache I can clear in pj64, or any other fixes for this? It really sucks.

Just before I posted that I downloaded the
file_icons/zip.gif RDB & GameFAQ v1.6.016
because ythe rules said if you dont have the new, fuly updated version you won't offer any support help. That really didn't make anything better for me; all it changed is that now in the 10 min I've been trying to play since then the game ended up hanging on me 3 times... :gunman:

Please, please, for the good of gamers everywhere in my area who play all the games on my computer, help me fix this shit!

Why don't you try a HLE audio plugin, like Azimer's HLE 0.56 WIP2 plugin? (sacrifices accuracy for pure speed, you'll need to enable "Send Audio Lists to Audio Plugin", in the RSP config).

Those 2 games, Perfect Dark and Goldeneye, are known to be extremely intensive to emulate (even the original games slowdown in cases). Heck, even my 3GHZ P4 struggles with them....

Your CPU is the issue, Pentium 4's are not capable of the same performance of compared AMD chips.

this is due to P4's being based on the older Netburst architecture (P3) where as amd is based on the quantispeed architecture.

for instance, a P4 1.8 will be slower then a AthlonXP 1800 @ 1.4ghz

mine works ok in goldeneye(check signature), its still very laggy on perfect dark even though it lags on the N64 on multiplayer as well(especially with lots of N-Bombs firing). And do you know your type of RAM? theres DD(double data[i think]) and SD(single data), and its very obvious that 512MB of SD RAM is half as good as 512MB of DD ram. But if you have SD RAM(like i do, sadly) its very hard to upgrade because its so expensive and hard to find even though it sucks(how ironic).

aye, the Pentium 3 in most cases outperforms early p4's :p

Resolution also plays a part Toasty :p

filtering settings also affect it.
