as you all know, the drivers offered by creative are.. doggie doo doo

for the past year or so i've been using the KX Project drivers instead of creative's for my sb live 5.1

i suggest to those with the creative line of cards to give the new version a try here -> http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/

the quality is _much_ better that offered by creative

heres a little description from the website:

The kX Project is an independent development project, focused on providing free WDM Audio Drivers for kX-Compatible sound cards. Read our Mission statement for a quick introduction.

The kX Audio Driver is an independent WDM (Windows Driver Model) driver for all EMU10K1 and EMU10K2-based soundcards manufactured by Creative Technology Ltd. and/or E-mu Systems Inc., including the SoundBlaster Live! series, the E-mu Audio Production Studio (APS) card, and the Audigy / Audigy2 series of cards. (Full List).

The kX Audio Driver package includes driver system files and setup files as well as a powerful audio mixer application (the kX Mixer), which acts as a Graphical User Interface, providing access to many of the driver's internal functions. The following features are either fully supported or partially supported in the latest release of the kX Audio Driver:

Wave Recording & Playback
MIDI Synthesizer (Soundfont-based) and MIDI UART In/Out
DirectSound 2D and DirectSound 3D
Full ASIO and GSIF support
DSP Microcode Loading/Unloading
AC3 Software Decoding

give'm a try and see what you think. :)

Hmm... I have had MANY fights with Creative's drivers... This sounds quite interesting. Looking at the site it looks like they've taken a few ideas from Linux for the GUI. Heh..

*gives you a mischievious grin*

How helpful of you.. :chinese:

Smp

at first it was looking good to me but.....

the they had to go and say that the drivers were not running right in SMP :gunman:

ARRRRRRGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!

you are right when you say that Creative's drivers are poop.

(rant)

when I told them I was having crackling sound and other problems. Creative told me I would have to disable half the features that were the reason I bought their stupid product in the first place. :getlost: Issues with SMP were not their problem :getlost: and that I could disable these features (and bring my machine way down on quality) or I needed to either upgrade my computer or boot uniprocessor. Why in the heck should I cripple my rig just to be compatable with their lousy drivers?

The problem still hasn't completely gone away. They stopped writing drivers for my 4 channel live, and started writing incompatable drivers for a 5.1 version. I managed to find a bastardized version that could be made to work with a 4 channel card. :naughty: At least now I have surround sound under DirectX, but no dice on EAX surround sound.

I've never spent another penny on that company and doubt I ever will again.

(/rant)

anyways...........................

hopefully these guys will fix the issues with SMP.
