Format:

WiMP 9 is a lot better than 7 or 8,
but it still has DRM
WiMP9 has a thing where you can control it from the taskbar in XP... minimize it then right-click on the taskbar, go to toolbars, windows media player.
but it loads very slowly
WiMP 9 has a new skin that goes with it's full sized one.
but it is a very bloated peice of software.

also there is a problem with playing certain MP3s.. it locks up or something like that: I think I saw a fix for that somewhere..

I'm wondering if the wmp 9 beta is worth downloading,

suggestions please :D

I have been using it for awhile now, and it works great for my computer. Hoever, keep in mind that its a beta, that means it will contain bugs, and some people have reported that they can't play anything with it. Personally I would recommend it, but download it at your own risk.

Good luck;)

whats drm?

It seems way better than 7, i still prefer version 8 tho.
It loads up the fastest out of the 3 tho, and looks quite nice tho :) i only really use it for watchin Divx anyways.

drm = digital rights management

I'm giving it a few months before someone produces a patch for it ;)

why aren't you guys using winamp/bsplay? they kick wmp's butt!

bsplay is for divx, btw.

both progs are much faster, and produce better output (sound and video). and are free.

of course i mean winamp 2.80 std, not winamp 3 crap.

hehe we know about winamp 2.8 being the best for audio (who doesnt know that) ill try bsplay, but i kinda like the interface of the newer WMP's tho

BTW: is there any way of getting a wma file to play that has been on someone elses pc? cuz it sux when u download rare music, and u realise its not playable on your pc, ive tried to it convert to wav with all sorts of programs to no avail.

It isn't playable if they used the protection scheme built into wma 7x (?) and above. If it brings up a web page that asks you to get a license, then there are a myriad of things... UNFUCK.EXE, another one... I think DE-DRM or something like that. Also, Winamp 2.1 or something like that had a wma plugin with wav output enabled.

?????????????????????????
Afaik, just open the file on the new computer. A page will load up in internet. Click move license and be done with it.

I speak and then I find, the wmp9 codecs are out and about without the DRM btw ;)

Bah, use OGG instead of WMA and DivX instead of WMV.

Ogg has been proven better than WMA, and DivX is getting there. Both are opensource and playable on any platform, and neither have DRM.

Not only that, but software is readily available to convert them to other formats if needed be.

amen alpha, bsplay is for divx, btw, and it makes my divx look better than dvd, since i use divx on a comp monitor and dvd on a tv.

BTW, winamp comes with OGG support built in, so you probably already have it :sly:

yea OGG files kick ass :) they are really good quality and small size, i just wish more things suppoted the format (eg cool edit, Nero, Atomix)
