SRAM is very different from DRAM. I don't think SRAM modules exist for use as system memory, and if they did they'd be very expensive. SRAM is typically embedded, such as in CPU cache.

SRAM - Static Ram - Fast and slow, low power when not accessed
DRAM - Dynamic Ram this must be refreshed within a certain period of time
EDO RAM - Extended Data Out Dynamic RAM
SDRAM - Synchronise Dynamic Ram (data is clocked out in a burst of information)
DDR SDRAM - Double Data Rate Synchronise Dram .. both edges of the clock are used to send the data out.
QDR FRAM- Qaud Data Rate Fast Ram.. you won't see this in your laptop VERY expensive but VERY fast.
RDRAM - Rambus Dynamic Ram.. this is DRAM that adheres to the intellectual property (IP) rights of Rambus INC high performance memory. See Nintendo 64

I think he means SODIMM, a special type of memory for laptops.
Its about half the size of regular memory and slides into its slot so that it lays flat against the board. Totally incompatable with standard DIMMs.

SODIMM just describes the form factor, its like the difference between a SIMM and a DIMM. Example, my laptop uses PC-133 SDRAM SODIMMs. Though I don't think he will be using SODIMMs because I think his laptop might be too old, not sure.
