Stumbled onto something quite intersting while playing around with the settings in PJ64.
=My system specs= (Gotta add that to my sig later like so many other people have done)
Windows XP Sp1
GeForce 4 MX 440, 64 megs vram
512 Megs SDRAM
SiS Integrated Audio
AMD Athlon 1.4 Ghz
==============
It seems that the GeForce gfx cards run faster on higher resolutions than they do on lower. I was running 320x240x16 for a while and it was skipping, jumping, (read: not working well). Put it up to 640x480x16 and the performance improved DRAMATICALLY.
For those of you that must have the raw numbers, i ran a few tests. Three to be exact on different resolutions. Numbers given are average FPS, with the limiter disabled. (as shown on the pj64 window, so remember it's fields per second from the cpu, not frames per second from the video plugin!) These tests were done using the bare bones system services necessary to run windows. No other users logged in etc. This is just my experience so keep this in mind: Your Mileage May Vary©
Plugins: (Used default options on all)
Video: Jabo's Direct3d6 1.5.1
Audio: Jabo's DirectSound 1.5
Input: Jabo's DirectInput7 1.5
Tests used:
Super smash bros, VS mode with 3 AI opponents,
Banjo-Kazooie, title screen
Aerofighter's assault, first level
Note these are all WINDOWED resolutions.
320x240:
SSB: 36.42
B-K: 42.05
AA: 39.97
640x480
SSB: 40.23
B-K: 52.19
AA: 49.85
800x600
SSB: 41.58
B-K: 55.08
AA: 51.67

For those of you that just MUST squeeze every last bit of performance outta that computer. Enjoy
