Theres software for any OS, called a TCP/IP stack, that is compatible with broadband. Might cost you an extra $10 a month, but its well worth it.

It's called DSL and use of a splitter that separates internet traffic from phone traffic, which means you can surf and use the phone =)

The speed limit is based on electrical regulations, not software.

You'd have to go and completely re-write the standard for how telephone wires work to get dial-up to go faster.

Good luck.

Does it make it much faster? I have ADSL at home

Leap of Faith
Netzero, the Internet provider (not sure what locales they serve), has some pretty fancy shmancy caching servers in place which give the illusion that you are going faster when web-browsing. No speed increases will be seen anywhere else to my knowledge.

Other then that, ^what they all said

Hmm...are my psuedo-informative posts really that convincing?

They would be, if most intelligent people didn't know that a TCP/IP stack is the entire reason we can connect to the internet to begin with using Linux or WinNT...

Road Runner?

Is that one of those "go 5x faster on dialup!" pieces of crap?

How could you not know what roadrunner is? It's like the oldest cable ISP there is.

Well...

A) I lived in southern Iowa, where there wasn't (and still might not be) cable internet options.

B) I live in Colorado, where the only choice is AT&T (which is now Comcast).

It's like being concerned about what stupid options AOL is offering this month when I never use their damn service. :)

ph33r teh hammy!
I have cable, and it's not roadrunner :p

Thought roadrunner was only available in certain parts of the counrty?

RoadRunner is in only certain parts of the country, (they aren't in my area, nor have they ever been) but, if you ever read, watch, or listen to the news on any medium, you should have heard of them at least once by now. Hell, they merged with AOL for christ sake. Nobody here remembers the time-warner fiasco? Thats scary.

all i know is, road runner owns all, cept optimum online, my buddy up north w/it gets mad speeds with that. and people who think DSL owns Cable, should be owned, because Fibre Optics can transmit much more data than any souped up phoneline can, so shove it. Ah that felt good, gotta print it and show it to my dumbass Verizon Owns classmate
