S-2K
i heard it makes windows xp more buggy and less compatible with some things, i'd probably get it if it was compatible with Intel Applictation Accellarator

There is a fix 4 this I had this to (another XP bug) 2 Ways to fix it

1 Install Dx 8.1b IT contains various fixes.
(It isn't downloadable for WinXP since this comes with SP1)

2 Install the Screensaver Standby error patch. It contains a new version of D3D8.dll This will fix ur problem probaly

Trust me Win2k is LOTS better then WiinXP

Besides I also reinstalled SuSe Linux 8.0 Personal and this OS suddenly also boots a lot faster. How can this be has there been some problem with WinXP and Linux?

Hi guys

I just installed Windows 2000 Pro with Service Pack 3. and believe me this is a reccomendation for everyone here on the forum who is currently using XP. My pc boots in like 20 secs. All my games start alomost without loading. My memory usage is lower. I played ut 2003 at 1280x1024 all settings to highest and it hasn't stuttered for 1 second. (I have a Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64 Meg DDR Ram) It plays games waaaay faster then WinXP does. Trust me. This is especially for people who have 256 Meg of Ram or lower.

I installed Win2K with Service pack 3 and the thing was so fricken slow I couldnt wait to get back on XP. My speed increased 10 fold when I did. I reccomend everyone on the forum with XP keep it.

Quite the opposite actually, Win2k is less compatible. The whole point of XP was to add more compatibility to the NT kernel.

although.. when it comes to service packs..

IMO it's better to slipstream them into your cd. you'll already have the most up to date files and wont have to worry about a huge download..

also.. you should only install service packs after a fresh install or format. installing a service back on a fairly old/used install of windows and errors and conflicts are likely to crop up, making your situation worse
