What's new

I bought a WS 19' LCD TV last week...

I hooked it up to my video card with a VGA cable. I cloned the monitors. PJ64 looks incredible on LCD!

But... Video files do not appear on the LCD. I use both WMP and Power DVD. DVD's won't show either. All my drivers are ugraded, including my video drivers. So why can't I see video? Is it something to do with the digital and analog conversion?

Try disabling overlays in your media player.

@ Windows Media Player = Tools, Options, Performance Tab, Advanced Tab..., and uncheck Use overlays for both Video Acceleration and DVD video. Then restart player.

@ Media Player Classic = View, Options, Output Tab, and change Directshow Video to something besides Overlay Mixer (I'd recommend VMR9 renderless)

Thanks Preserver! It worked a treat! I also found the dual sceen mode in Power DVD properties, so video is working now. Amazing what you find when you look! :)

Unfortunately, I couldn't squeeze all of the 16.9 image on the LCD. I adjusted the ratio settings on Power DVD 's properites but that had no effect so I adjusted it with the H/V-Postion on the LCD. I loose a little bit of the picture on the top or bottom, depending how I postion it. I think it's because my computer's resolution is 1024x768 but if I set it to 1280x1024 everything like the icons and font looks way too small and my computer automatically resets it back to 1024x768 anyway. I have a 17' CRT monitor. So is there a way around this?

Also a tip for people with LCD screens. Don't clean them. The little bugger collects dust like no tomorrow so I tried cleaning it with AV cleaner which on the label recommended it for LCD, Plasma and all screen surfaces. It may work great on CRT tubes but because the LCD screen is a matt black it leaves this horrible streaking. Fortunately you can't see the streaking when the picture is on. Next time I will wipe it with a dry cloth or just blow the dust away. Either way, cleaning it was more trouble than it's worth. :(

What kind of video card do you have?

I know on one of my video cards it would only display videos on the primary display and I had to go into the settings and change that.

GeForce 7600GS. I have played around with the display resolutions but for some reason when i change the LCD to 1440x900 (Or anything else for that matter) it just resets it back to 1024x768. Annoying but i guess i can live with with a few mills off the screen.
