How many of the older members have tried "Dolphin"?

I finally got my GameCube BBA and I've been playing around with Dolphin for hours on end. Just curious as to how many of the `older` emutalk members have tried it and what their impressions of it were?
Personally, I'm extremely impressed by the whole thing. And also slightly nostalgic to see my very own `ripped` NGC games running much as most of us first saw N64 roms back on TRWin, Nemu etc in the "good ol' days", with corrupted graphics, "opcodes/country codes", trying different configs etc. I think I missed all that rawness and fun of trial and error discovery. It's just more interesting to me to see how it progresses on the technical side of things I guess... Plus I feel morally and technically better being able to use my own 20+ NGC games for an emulator rather than a ROM someone else ripped.
Thoughts, reflections, retrospectives, comments..?

There's no question it's an amazing achievement, as is every emulator in my opinion. I still feel warm and fuzzy every time I load an old favorite, from the NES to the Genesis to the N64. I haven't tried Dolphin myself; I don't own a Gamecube and have little interest in the games. Not to mention that I don't feel much like downloading gigabytes of data.

Personally I'm watching PS2 development. I look forward to the day when I can play these games at higher resolutions.

Couldn't agree with you more on that one, and I wish more of our new members felt this way.

I totally agree on this one, and I feel sorry I jumped into the N64 scene so late. Dolphin is just plain fun to mess with.

The decent one
I am more interested in the technical side of emulators than playing games with it. Especially at the time I had an old computer it was much more fun to speed games up and mess around with the (advanced) settings than playing them. After I got my 3.0 ghz I thought a would get the ultimate emulation experience, but I was a bit dissatisfied and that was the moment I realized I am a tech dude, and not a gamer :)

?????????????????????????
Well, concerning I own a cube, I don't have much need for an emulator. Plus, adding that one doesn't want to download a couple of gb when games aren't playable...
no, i haven't tried it. It's awesome progress, though, and the authors should feel proud of themselves.

ive fooled around with it and thats it so far. it seems my old gf2mx is really showing to be hopelessly outdated as i wasnt able to reach near the graphics quality that other members showed in their screenshots. no doubt its an awesome achievement, i was especially impressed with the awesome graphics quality that a lot of games are showing .. using the appropriate hardware of course. as im the lucky owner of a bba im looking forward to future releases since ive got plenty of games to test.

I've ran a few games (MKDD!, Mario sunshine, Zelda, BAM 3000) and they all ran much better than I expected. I'm very impressed by it. It kinda reminds me of when I first saw Megaman X running in a very old build of Zsnes. It sorta inspires one to see such a thing.. ya know? :freak: =]

I am without a doubt impressed and have a total respect for the Authors for such a great start to the NGC Emulation Development.

on the other hand i am a need a "Game Pad Freak" i seriously don't care for PC Point & Play games Via Mouse & Keyboard and don't/Wont play with Dolphin any further until i see some Game Pad support.

I am the same way too about PC Engine Hugo nice emu shame about the Input :)

I would Love love :inlove: love to see further PS2 Development as i love that Console (In All Honesty I'm not a Fan of the NGC)

At the moment i will just say the only thing I'm liking about the {}:{Cube is Dolphin.

I hate everyone who uses Dolphin to play games they should be buying instead. Fuck you all. You know who you are.

Other than that, it's doing great... but personally I think that all of the current gen emu authors should hold back on public releases until the next round of consoles is released.

he's usually like that, all i did is ask about RDRAM, and he basically called me a noob

as for the emulator, it's not fast enough to play games on it anyway, apart from a few 2d games, so why all the fuss?

I think it's a very promising emulator, after the authors putting so much work into it, it deserves to be released

Owning a console or machine though is often a moot point for those who just love the technology and programming interest values that emulators bring, at least IMHO. Seeing how the project progresses in terms of workarounds, compatibility, graphical quality and sound will be a fascinating thing to watch. Everyone who remembers the early days of (flashram..? Too long ago.) with Majora's Mask will know what I'm talking about, and the fun when it finally worked without the Ocarina bug. Not to mention the added terms of possible NGC dev/programming work this brings closer to a lot of people.

(He says, quietly trying to kick Knoppix into working with the NFS support on GCLinux in the background...) ;)

Also, right now I'm looking on the "couple of gb" download for `unplayable` games as being a Good Thing [t.m.], just as it was back when N64 emulation was still basic and the best option for everyone was to go out and buy the games. For now it'll keep the emulator out of the stage that N64 roms/emu's have reached, whereby anyone can illegally download the entire N64 back catalogue in a few hours and play them nigh-on perfectly for nothing.

The other option (The "PSO" method) is also off-putting for those kinds of people, or for piracy in general because it's A) expensive at first B) space-intensive and C) time consuming.
An hour a rip (or several hours d/l) for a game that in all likelyhood won't stream or run properly on Dolphin or the real hardware keeps it in the realms of the more technically interested, which is after all why many of us may have gone through our "bored" phase over the last year or so. Is perfection less interesting when talking emulation..?
Now there's a question.

That's... pretty much sums up the way I feel. I'll probably try it a little when it actually gets good, but that won't be for a couple years yet. 'Till then, back to my Gamecube!

:D

I never bothered installng it. If I do, it will be just to check out the emulator itself. There's simply not a single game on the gamecube that interests me at all.
