How long do you estimate my GF3 will last without it's fan?

I have a Geforce 3 Ti 500 with a dead cooling fan. I pulled the fan out so as not to inhibit airflow over the heatsink. Any idea how long it can keep going like this? Of course, for all I know the fan has been dead for some time; I don't exactly check things like that frequently.

Curse all companies that use cheap, sleeve-bearing fans. :getlost:

I'm guessing a few days depending on how long your computer is on. I don't have any experience on this so I might be off. The MX-type cards are the only cards i've seen that can run without a fan and not overheat. Just put in a Thermaltake Blue Orb or Crystal Orb.

If there is some decent airflow over the heatsink from a case fan or something, it should last till the end of time. Well, not quite ;)
How hot does it get during gaming? You could loop 3dmark or something for a while and see if it burns your hand when you touch it. If it does, go get a 80mm case fan, mod it to 7V, mount it somewhere so it blows on the card, and have better cooling and a quieter PC than before the fan died

If you only use your vcard for normal things such as desktop publishing i think it will last long enough i think ?

But if you are going to play games then i think it's gonna kill your gf.

(btw don't you have a spare fan from an old computer? )
:)

Except for my emulators, I haven't played many games recently. The card gets painfully hot to the touch just being on though. Things are very stable fortunately. I looped 3dMark a few times; ran my most intense screensaver for about 6 hours straight. No problems thus far.

Hmm, I've been itchin' to buy a Radeon 9700 for a while now. This is just the excuse I need. :satisfied
