I downloaded the Xvid codec, extracted it to the Divx folder and i still can't watch my Xvid video. How do i get the Xvid codec to work?

The solution is to download a self installing binary distribution of the XviD codec. Both Nic and Koepi supply these.

Nic's compiled XviD codec here.
Koepi's compiled XviD codec here.

Also, http://www.xvid.org/ is the home of development of the XviD codec, there are no binary distributions here.

Just install one of these (either one should suffice) and install them. No need to manually extract any files at all. Also, XviD isn't really related to DivX, it is a different codec.

I installed the codec and when i tried watchin the video in DivX, the video was upside down. But when i tried Windows Media Player it was fine. How do i make it so it's not upside down on divx?

Glad you got the movie playing. The upside down problem has different causes and solutions, you could try:

1. To just watch it in WMP and be happy.
2. Uninstall all codecs and install the ones you need again.
3. Use ffdshow instead of DivX/XviD (uninstall DivX/XviD first).

If ffdshow doesn't solve the problem immediately, you can check the "flip video" (or something to that effect) option in the ffdshow configuration window.

1) FFDShow doesn't handle vids encoded with the latest XviD builds properly, and FFDShow Alpha is still pretty buggy. :( But if it works for you, it will play just about any MPEG video... with better quality than anything else.

2) Nic's stand-alone decoder is still best

3) For a player, I highly recommend Media Player Classic.
