Wow, it's been so long since I've been here. What's up?

So now that I'm in college and whatnot, I've been taking a lot of
programming classes, and I was wondering if you guys had any
plans of going open source with Dolphin?

You may find that opening up the source code will allow people to look
at the code, and some of these people may have helpful ideas.
I know that the main thing slowing Dolphin down is the engine,
but I'm sure you could have some people suggest patches for
certain setups, or minor bugfixes.

Just a thought :)

well, if you write your own emulator, and show people that your serious with coding it, coders will show you their source code. Open source just means that its accessable to the public. I cant guarantee that the Dolphin team will give you their source, but they will help you, and tell you what they know (When they are around :p) I have learned a lot about emulation and how CPUs work just by talking to some of the coders.

and there are a few other emulators which their source code is avaible (like gcube etc..) Try those and show you coding skills! And the team of the Gekko emulator is searching some skilled coders btw

I'm mostly good at optimization. I'm not looking to be part of the coding team,
I just wanted to play around with the source, and take a peek at how the
main engine is written.

Talk to Lightning about that one. (though I havent seen him around much) dont know if you will be able to help him, but Im pretty sure that if you drop them a line at #Gekko on EFnet (I think thats how its spelled :p) you never know what you might find out. I have learned quite a bit about this stuff. Masken AKAIK is still working on his DynaRec, so you could talk to him. There are people who you can talk to, just dont get too shy, after all this is the internet.
