lil' hobo that shouldn't matter, it'll still install regardless.

Maybe whats happening is that you have a virus that attacks .exe files and modifies them. It's happened to me in the past and it makes most of my programs not work.

I get the exact same error.

"a cabinet necessary for installation cannot be trusted"

I downloaded 9.0c alot of times even tried to install it from game cds that have 9.0c, but keeps giving me the same error. Was anyone able to figure out how to fix this?

WHOA! you guys are making this WAY WAY WAY to hard......alll you have to do is go to www.dll-files.com and search for d3d9.dll and download it, then unzip it to your Windows/System directorie and the error is fixed....u dont even have to put it in Windows/System u can just put it in the chankast folder if u want. I had this problem and this does work.

Just Another Wacko ;)
Then redownload directX from microsoft. If this doesn't work then you have to reinstall windows.

PS: Your signature is very big. Please remove some of the pics.

Same Problem - "A cabinet file cannot be trusted"

Hey there,

I am trying to install directx 9.0c also, but get the same error message "a cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted".
1. I have tried the redist version, and have a copy on the sims 2 game cd - but every attempt results in the same error message.
2. Services.exe is running, but I don't see services.msc.
3. I have downloaded d3d9.dll and placed it in c:window/system per KageGT's instructions - but still the same result.
I REALLY don't want to reformat/reinstall XP, and want to make sure that I'm not overlooking any other options before I do it.

Can anyone help me? (i am a rookie)

Same problem :-(

I have the same problem on my partition with my game XP. I can't update from DirectX 9.0b to 9.0c.
On the other hand I was able to upgrade my other XP partition (I have a dual boot systme to keep games/demos away from my office/mail environment) using the same CD (the Sims 2).
I also noticed that my game XP seem's to disalow ActiveX components. Futher nvidia drivers are the same (latest) on both partitions.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

bingo

Hi all,

I fixed my problem with the following 2 steps:

Start/Run
Type "gpedit.msc" ENTER
Click + by Computer Configuration
Click + by Windows Settings
Click + by Security Settings
Click + by Software Restriction Policies
Click + by Trusted Publishers
For "Allow the following users to select trusted
publishers," the default is "End users."
If you do not have this at all, this does not apply.
This is typically the activeX error or the 0x800b0004

===============================================

The log file contains "Error 0x80092026: The cryptographic operation failed due to a local security option setting.", error. This occurs due to local security setting, to resolve the issue check for "safer" key in registry and delete it.

Locate the following key
Start/Run
Typr "regedit" ENTER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\
SystemCertificates\TrustedPublisher
Under "TrustedPublisher" look for "Safer" key.
Delete the "Safer" key if it is there.

-> directX 9c installs now, hope this helps you too

Problem solved

I found some help, managed to install Directx 9.0c successfully.

It seems that the problem was related to Windows update - which also was not working properly. Error: 0x800B0001. To resolve this, I followed some steps from a post in *gasp* another site. As found @ http://www.talkaboutsoftware.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsupdate/messages/112538.html

Please try and registry the following dll's and then check to see if you
have resolved the error.

The problem may occur if the softpub.dll file is missing or not registered
properly.
Register Softpub.dll
1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type regsvr32 SOFTPUB.dll.
4. Click OK.
The problem may occur if the Mssip32.dll file is missing or not registered properly.
Register Mssip32.dll
1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
4. Click OK.
The problem may occur if the Initpki.dll file is missing or not
registered properly
Register Initpki.dll
1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type regsvr32 Initpki.dll.
4. Click OK.

none of the above has worked for me unfortunately, driven to despair, i reinstalled windows xp and now windows media player 10 doesnt work either - i have carried out all the above to the letter but to no avail, any more ideas or shall i just reformat the whole drive? Its getting a bit slow and windowsy anyway.
