help donkey kong 64 can't get key

i got up to fungi forest fine now i'm to the boss and once he starts to sink the platform he does nothing to taunt me the exploding barrols don't work and no hunky chunky barrol appears am i doing something wrong or is it the rom if it's the rom will someone give me a code to get the keys or unlock the worlds

i've tried gamefaqs in fact i've aceaved the rank of LEGEND on gamefaqs the problem is the guides say he'll throw fireballs after he stompts you then you hit him with a barrel and a hunky chunky barrel appears you use the barrol and then you hit him until he dies but none of that happenes he pounds the platform the he just taunts me i can't hurt him with a exploding barrol and the hunky chunky barrol doesn't appear i think it's a problem with either the rom or the emulator if it is i would like a code to eather give me the key or open all of the worlds please help
