Help! Controlling Blast Corps

I finally got around to getting the emulator and have got blast corps for it which was the only rom i wanted. I'm using the N-rage direct input 8 controller plugin and I'm having serious difficulties getting the game to respond to diagonal control (it just doesn't). This not only hampers moving in the game but also on the map screen; it won't go diagonally so I can't get to some of the levels.

Would a different input plugin help or is there anything else I can do. The controls that I am using at the moment are in this ctp file, if it helps: http://home.ripway.com/2004-2/67149/blastcorps.ctp

Thanks for any help, it's a nice emulator and it runs the game but there's just this one problem with it.

There's nothing wrong with the plugin. Either you've configured it incorrectly or your gamepad is broken.

lyssa, you wouldn't happen to have a Saitek gamepad, would you? And if so, you wouldn't happen to be trying to use the d-pad on it...? 'cause that thing is a real 8-way POV hat and thus the Windows API can't interpolate directions correctly for diagonals.

Use the stick.

Oh, and make sure the Control Stick and D-Pad aren't mapped to the same controls, regardless of what kind of controller you use (keyboard too)
