Help again with VO:OT2

Hey there, fellow emulation junkies. I have been trying for a long time, upwards of a week, to get my echelon ripped copy of Vo:eek:t2 to work with Chankast. However, I'm never able to get past the intro screen. I've looked through the forums for help, and I've found several threads of people with the same problems (particularly this person here http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=23761). What I've figured out is that I have to edit the 1st_read.bin and delete the echelon intro (by deleting the first 983040 blocks of it in the hex editor) then make the game self-bootable. I've tried a variety of methods to do this such as: extracting all the files from the rom into a folder, editing the 1st_read.bin in that folder, using that folder as the data directory with exoboot 3.1 to create a self-bootable game, and trying to load that. I've tried extracting the music files after that and putting those into the data directory in the hope that would change something, but in both these attempts I'm never able to get past the sega logo without freezing (even while overclocking the cpu to or past 120).

Is there anyone who has already been through this process, who can walk me through the EXACT steps I need to do to make the game self bootable and tell me the software I need in order to do so.

Just do what the thread said:

Using hexworkshop you must delete the first 983040 bytes of the file... open the file with the HexWorkshop, make sure you are at the beginning of the file, the use Edit->Select Block from the menu. Now in the new dialog box, enter this values Block : 983040 <-> Dec, Method : Size of Block and then press OK..
Now will have a large portion of the file highlited, press DEL on the keyboard, and click OK to the answer about the undo buffer being to small to hold 983040 bytes change...
Now use the "Save As" function to save this file as 1ST_READ.BIN on another location...
This is the 1ST_READ.BIN file you need to make this game work...

Is that all I have to do? I don't have to make it self bootable after this? And how do I place the 1st_read.bin file back inside the .cdi image?
