Graphics Cards

OK ladies what graphics cards are you recommending at the moment, and I'm not willing to spend more than 100 quid for one.

Um... you MIGHT be able to get your hands on a Radeon 9600 (non-Pro is still fine) for £100. MAYBE. I'm not totally sure about that though.

If you can't, though, I guarantee you can find a Ti4200 of some sort for well under £100.

I'd go for a DX9 card if you're a hardcore gamer, just because of HL2 and Doom3 and such. If not, I agree with Tag, just go for the Ti series cards.

Get the 9700non-pro, it's only around $200, and you will get a lot more preformance than the 9600, it should be able to comfortablely run HL2 and Doom3.

I got a gf5200fx very cheap, can't remember how much it costs but after playing around with it I realized one thing, you get what you pay for... Definetely not a great card but it gets the job done.

A ti-4200 would definitely be a good value vs performance card, especially now that the fx series have hit the market. Another one would be radeon 9500/9600. Perhaps look for a used one on eBay? Here's a search I did for ti-4200's available to United Kingdom:

ti-4200

Cheapest buy it now at 78 euros. :)

Why not a Ti4800SE or something?! For £120, £130 you'll get a far, far better card.

Yeah, but that's always the case. Pay more, get more. Hmm, makes sense :p Blizz probaly has a reason for why not spending more then 100 quid...

ra5555, did you read Blizz's post? He is not willing to spend more than £100 on a card, and $200 = more than £100 ;)

Yo, sorry, didn't read closely enough :p. If it's less than 100, then I would recommend getting a readon 9500non-pro if u wanna take a bit risk and see if it softmods, or a 9600pro. Those will probably cost you around $120, if that's too much, go for a ti4200. :)

I almost forgot, if you start slipping $20 to people...would you mind slipping me some where around 5 grand? I need to pay off my debt from my truck wreck and finish buying stuff to fix all the bet stuff. :/

I just bought a Quadro2 Pro on ebay for $40, (w/s&h). This is an excellent card and has extremely accurate color definition. It's MUCH richer than my GeForce3 Ti500.

Geforce FX 5200 128 Meg DX 9.0 card for 89 USD, probaly your way to go

NOTE: The 5200 has no FSAA support since you can compare this to the new version of the MX cards. But it does support Pixel Shading, Vertex Shading so fully Dx 9.0b compliant

Just a waste of money. Cards get old fast. Would you rather pay $200 each time you buy a new card than $100?
To sum it up, what have we learned today? Never EVER get the latest cards. Kthx.

The Ti4800 SE == Ti4200 with AGP 8x. Why not spend £50+ extra for the same card, huh?

Get a Ti4200. Fin.
