I still doubt that a faster CPU would help, still with as fast as our CPUs are, it really can't make that big of a difference. As for Windows 98, were both running it, so if it were a problem with mine, it would be the same with his.

However if I were to upgade, my CPU/Memory/Motherboard would most likely be the next thing to go, but I can't afford a radical change like that right now.

Thats true, but you also have to consider that athlons are MUCH better for games, a P3's FPU doesn't compare.

hey my systems exactly the same as your bros barthe processor (1.33) and the fact i have a via chipset motherboard. with my 3danalyze mod i can run it at 1024X768 without any problems, what resolution is he running at eagle? and good to see other people with thrustmaster dual power gamepads, if only they placed rumble support in the game the cheap mofos. have you got your right stick to work with accelerating/braking eagle, because i really wanna use it for that purpose.

Nope, unfortunately they won't let you modify the analog stick controls in this game. Oh, hes running a 800x600x16.

Well, I installed Windows XP, and it seems to be running much better. Guess it was the OS.

Damn its amazing how well this works now. My brother couldn't take it above 800x600x16, now I've got it running perfect at 1024x76x32

W2K will get you like a 2-5% performance gain :p

Win2K sucks, I'd rather have Windows 98. XP rocks, but I wish it were a little more compatible.

Sure Windoes 2k might give a 2-5% performance gain, but it give a 20% game compatiblity loss, where as Windows XP gives about a 5% loss.

bah, windows 2000 was the first thing that microsoft actualy did half right since the company even started. XP is 2000 but with wasted memory/resources. Also, windows 2000 NEVER crashed when I used it. All games being written nowadays work fine with it.

i really dont care if xp has a 5% compatibility loss or whatever, its just an altogether nicer operating system to use. it prevented me from thinking about buying a mac lol. and come-on, ive yet to use an app that doesnt work perfectly on it. btw eagle, could you tell me how much faster a geforce3ti200 is than say a geforce2mx400? i saw one really cheap and i was wondering if it was worth getting it as my processors relatively fast enough (1.33ghz)

I haven't had any games that I couldn't get to work with XP yet, the only one that game me a small problem was Dungeon Keeper 2, I got that to work though by patching and using the compatability settings.

2 other things that have had troubles with XP for me were, Corn (I never use it anyway, just wanted to see if it worked), and most Glide Wrappers.

I have even tested out many older DOS games, as well as old games such as Flight Sim 98 which also work fine.

Regarding RAM usage of XP, yes it does use more than 98, and more than 2K even but that isn't much of a issue nowadays where systems are more ram laden than ever. If you wish to save some memory though you can just turn off un-needed services. Resources are not even an issue with the NT line of OSs though, as they were with the 9X line.

I know that this question wasn't asked towards me, but as I upgraded from an 2MX 400 to a GF3 ti200 it is one I consider myself able to answer. In my experience there was quite a large performance increase, with frame rates rising accross the board. Also I have found myself able to run many games including Morrowind and GTA3 with Antialiasing settings on. You can also use higher resolutions with less of a performance decrease. All in all a very very nice card, that overclocks well and isn't that expensive either nowadays.

btw, my processor is only a 900mhz Athlon, but even with such a processor the performance increase was easily noticeable.

Any examples you can think of AlphaWolf? I've played quite a lot of old Dos games in XP without any problems at all - though inevitably there is going to be some problems with the DOS emulation used, thus far I haven't encountered any though.

Well, for one. Grand Theft Auto 2 doesn't work on 2000/XP :p

EDIT: Not even in compatibility mode
