Hey everyone has a different amount of ghz and everyone seems to be able to run it fine.... im not sure where everyone gets thier "specs" but this is what i know about my pc:

Compaq
Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 Cpu 1.60GHz
1.59GHz
512 MB of RAM

and im on windows XP home edition. I cant run games very fast so what is the best ghz to have? and do i need to get a new procesor or something to get more ghz?

thx

A 1.6GHz CPU is getting a bit long in the tooth these days,

To run Chakast properly, you need some serious hardware. I do not use Intel CPU's, but from what I can gather, 2.5GHz is recommended, while 2GHz seems to be the generally agreed miinmum spec.

It works differently with Athlons, where GHz speed has very little meaning, more the optimisation of the core.

ko forgive me for being kinda stupid but i dotn understand what Anthalon is or Intel. Pentium 4 is the processor so is Anthalon or Intel the ppl that make it? like basically what i want to know is what i should ask for at CompUSA to buy

thx

Athlon and Pentium are brands of computer processors. Athlon processors are made by AMD and Pentium processors are made by Intel. Each company makes several brands of processors. For example Intel makes Pentium, Celeron, and Xeon to name a few. AMD makes the Athlon, Sempron, Opteron to name a few. Each processor is a little different. Pentium and Athlon are probably the most common. There are processors each company makes for servers, and lower end processors such as the Celeron. I hope this explains things a little better. :)

ok im thinking about a Pentium 4 with 2.5 or 3 ghz. Does anyone have a clue about how much these things cost? sry, this is the last thing i will ask.

ok i kinda knew what i was doin but then i saw this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...ED&description=Intel,Pentium,4&InnerManu=1157 these things are like 1,000$ - 300$ and some of the 300 something $ ones seem to have the same amount of ghz....0_o what on earth is going on! or should i just shutup and call comp usa :p

With that processor you are paying for that L3 cache. "GHz" has ceased to be the single deciding factor in buying a CPU for a long time; it is a combination of many factors, which include clock speed, FSB, amount of cache, supoorted instruction sets... list goes on. Intel can only push up the speed so high before they hit a wall, of which they are fast approaching. This is when you take the other factors into account. The Extreme Edition is a Extreme waste of money since it gets outperfomed by AMD processors as well as some of Intel's own faster prescott chips which are much cheaper.

Unfortunately, you have been led into Intel's former marketing hype that clockspeed was the single determinant of speed, which it clearly isn't, as a processor clocked 1GHz slower is outperforming their flagship product for the most part in benchmarks, in particular, gaming. They changed their tune though and introduced model numbers following AMD.

It has also been noted that Chankast runs faster on AMD processors than Intels at this time. If a build which required SSE2/SSE3 intructions was released, then it may be a different story.

I got a P4 3.0GHZ HT
512 MB or Ram
256MB video card

And chankast still runs bad on MVC2
It only runs smooth on the training level.

that is a shame cuz I play mvsc1 and 2 with only a hiccup at the intro but everything else perfect, in fact I have to run mine on full screen so that the graphics fps doesnt get ahead of the sound (70/60 fps). 2.8ht p4 1gb of ram.
