Which is the best? I define "best" as (sort by priority):

Compatibility
Performance and Quality
GUI/Interface
Features
Flexibility

I'm asking because one is based on an older original-version etc..

Please only respond if:

- your message isn't spam.
- you are serious.
- you have good knowledge about this stuff

Appreciated

They are all pretty good, I have seven different Gens builds myself based off of different sources.

The official Gens was great a couple of years ago when the alternatives didn't really exist. It was fast and the compatibility was pretty high. However, it was pretty limited in sound/video options. Now there are quite a lot of builds based on it's source.

Gen32 is an interesting modification which has some improvements to the sound, and adds more video options. This has progressed quite far.

GenPlus is the best IMO, although it still has some minor bugs in the video code when using certain renderers. GenPlus can also run Master System and Game Gear games etc. as well which none of the other Gens mods can. The next official Gens will even include a lot of GenPlus features in order to level up with Kega Fusion.

I must say though that Kega Fusion is light years ahead of any Gens build I've tried, since it has the highest compatibility of any Megadrive emulator, best sound and best video modes. The emulator has very, very few bugs.

Your comment was informative, isn't that a contradiction though (bold in quote)?

Not really, he was stating that he thinks GenPlus is the best out of the 3 options you asked about.

The comment about Kega Fusion was his own personal feelings that it is the best Sega emulator and better than all 3 of the Gens versions you originally asked about.

Definately not a contradiction :)

1st bold is reference to the fact that Gen Plus is the best of the builds you listed in the thread title.

2nd bold refers to Kega being better than all the builds you listed.

Edit: What Trotter said. :p

Ah, yes, you're right, my bad! :D

I think I'll wait what other users say until I fall my decision regarding the best Genesis-Emulator...

1. Besides, do Kega Fusion as well as Gens Plus! contain all the BIOS-files of the consoles they are meant to run?
2. Do they both contain the BIOS-files of the SEGA Genesis 32x-Extension?

I use Kega a lot now - more so than Gens. Gens is a great emulator but kega seems to be more with the times (better filters, not forcing 16bit display depth, etc)

It seems like there are always two main emulators dominating in one sector:

- Project 64 vs. 1964
- SNES9xppse vs. zSNES
- Nestopia vs. FCE Ultra
- Kega Fusion vs. Gens Plus!

So according to your first comment the Kega Fusion-Installer/Binary does not carry any BIOS-files in it?

BIOS files are illegal so cannot be carried with emulators.

Howcome I could run ROMs with Gens earlier then?

I understand that you are referring to the 32x-BIOS-File. But the orginal Genesis (16-Bit)-BIOS-file have to be included, because I could run ROMs with an Gens Emulator earlier without installing any additional BIOS-files. Does that mean that the original Genesis (16-Bit)-BIOS-file is legal?

You only need to download the 32x bios or the sega cd bios, the genesis bios aren't required to play the games. Gens is a good emulator for most people, but I have had problems with the resolution on my monitor. I haven't had any problems with kega except it uses the analog stick instead of the d-pad on my controller. Other than that, kega is the better emulator.

I wish wish wish Kega didn't hard-code the Genesis d-pad to the axes of your gamepad. It's the only thing that keeps me from using it. :(

I prefer the analog stick, for me it's more comfortable than the d-pad.

And when the core of Kega Fusion does carry the Genesis-BIOS in it...isn't that illegal too (like the 32x-BIOS-file)?

Kega does not include any BIOS files.

Distributing BIOS files is illegal no matter what.

When Kega does not have any BIOS-File, how can it run Genesis files native then? I just loaded a Genesis rom with it and it worked. How can a emulator run a system without the systems BIOS' information?

BIOS files are not always essential to the emulation of a system. Master System and Gameboy emulators do not require BIOS files either even though the real systems have a BIOS. Ask a developer.
