GC controller adapter on project 64 problems pls help

im using an adapter to use a gamecube controller on the nintendo 54 emulator to play ocarina of time and it works all fine, except that when i push the analog stick in a direction between the X and Y axis, link wont run. he just walks slowly instead and i tried changing controller, but that didnt do anything. i also tried to restart the emulator and also the adapter driver, but that didnt do anything either
