haven't played a game since i got back from hong kong. once i'm done exams, i'll be continuing with:

banjo kazooie
star ocean (snes)
chrono cross (god, why is it so boring)

i'd also love to go back and do all the secrets/sidequests that i missed in FF7, but i can't stand the random battles. really piss me off when i'm trying to explore. =P

Chron Cross is pissing me off. I missed it on relese, and going back to it now (given that it's the follow-up to one of the finest RPGs of all time) I can't help but dislike it. The whole game is cheesy and unlikeable in a very PSX way, in comparison to Chrono Trigger which is lovely in that 16-bit way (maybe I'm getting old). Meh.

OT: As my old graphics card died (don't fuck about with computers when drunk), I had to buy a new one and got a 9800pro. So I've been playing a few new PC games:
UT2K4 (hell yeah)
Farcry
Max Payne 2
Worms 3D

Diablo 2 got a hold of me recently (again for the 50th time).

On the GC, MK:DD got a lot of time (although nobody wants to play against me any more) and I completed Eternal Darkness.

Currently playing Grandia II and GTA III, both PS2.

I enjoyed Chrono Cross, but I'd say I enjoyed it despite its flaws. Nice graphics, great music, and a fun battle system. However, the characters were stale and uninteresting, and the story, while initially engaging, grew too convoluted for its own good. Chrono Trigger is definitely the superior game.

GogoTheMimic

Pimpin' Red Mage
They say that playing Chrono Trigger before Cross enriches and ruins Chrono Cross. I think it's a good game in it's own right but as a sequel to Chrono Trigger, it drops the ball. I just hope that Square Enix does something with the two copywritten names "Chrono Brake" in Japan and "Chrono Break" in the US.

Yeah, the graphics are very good for PSX. Lots of moving sparkly backgrounds and that sort of shit. The bagpipe music in that town was awful, but aside from that it's all good. The battle system was pretty cool, but the magic system sucked IMO (too basic in comparison to FFVII, and the GUI was shitty). The number of characters, and their lack of depth pissed me off too - the main character's a mute (why?) and more or less every other character comes on, says their 3 lines, and then becomes irrelevent. I didn't feel attached to anyone (and outright hated quite a few), which is no good for an RPG.

No doubt. I would have enjoyed Chrono Cross a lot more if it hadn't had the "Chrono" bit in the title ;)

Um, Crono doesn't talk at all in CT does he? I don't recall him saying anything at all...

Heh. Now that you mention it, I can't remember him saying much. Don't you get asked questions where people respond to your answers, at some point? I can't remember. Either way, I felt much more involved with the characters in CT than CC.

Yeah. The reviews I read praised CC for its huge roster. Pfft, talk about diluting depth and development, and most characters joined the quest for reasons that were tenuous at best. CT's characters were far more endearing.

afaik, Crono never talked. Neither did Link or Gordon Freeman (HL). I believe the design reason of this is that the character is supposed to be you. It helps the illusion if there isnt some guy speaking your lines.

I think in CT the choices were mostly yes/no's. You can get your decision across with a nod/shake head.

Nintendo Zealot
YES! I beat Lavos on new game+ and got the "dream team" ending. You get to go around and talk to the game's programmers. Pretty awesome. :flowers:
