alpha: you really think Rare was all that? Christ who would have thought Nintendos own hype machine could come back to bite it in the arse

my m8 who worked for lionhead last year testing the Creature Isles expansion pack said that according to some of the employees at Lionhead, Nintendo were bastards to work for, and in particular Rare were having massive disagreements with certain franchises. also, one of the main executives said that they were put off about working on the gamecube due to Nintendo's poor treatment of 2nd/3rd party companies (remember they were gonna port Black and White to the psx a while back, it was sorta around then). sorta word of mouth view, but still it wouldnt surprise me one bit if it was true.
yeah UK companies have a major problem though, the current major studios are currently run by ex-home developers who are used to a hell of a lot of freedom, which they normally get on the PC, but they're not going to get that on a Nintendo console, purely for Nintendo's "quality checking" system, it doesn't necessarily mean you can do anything on the PS2 or the X-Box though, they both have their own rules but they're more relaxed about the stuff that goes on their console,
the Rare Nintendo problems are old news btw, Rare and Nintendo have traditionally had problems, it was the then head of NOA btw who made Rare put 4-player into Goldeneye...
oh yeah my reasons for buying each console:
GC: Metroid Prime, Zelda, SMS, Starfox Adventures, Starfox (Namco), FF: CC, and whatever the hell Genius Sonority and Game Designer Studio come up with in the future, PSO v2
PS2: Gungrave, ICO, FFX
X-Box: Panzer Dragoon....
I'm a nintendo whore but I've always like SEGA games, will Nintendo do a SEGA? I dunno, if the Gamecube fails they're going to do it as their best console, will it succeed? well they made the N64 profitable so we shall see
