Freezing issue with Paper Mario

I have no idea what to do, basically what's happening is when I hop on the whale to go to lavalava island, the game freezes when i'm in the middle of the ocean. I can't get it to go past that part at all. It just freezes. Any idea on what I should do?

this happened to me too. Just change to the American version of the game and it should be fine.

ermm...

can you use cheats? if you do, go into the pipes (with a all partners cheat on) look for a place with three orange squares in the ground and fight the blooper. then three pipes'll come and one of them leads to lavalava island
