What's new

Firefox 1.5 beta 1 released

Just Another Wacko ;)
Had to clear my last profile in order to get rid of some annoying error messages... Fortunately reloading the History and Bookmarks files manually did the job. :)
My favourite skins and extensions are also not updated yet (it's getting annoying to wait for updated extensions after each Firefox update).

If we exclude the above this release seems great. :D

Hmm... maybe I don't have such problems because on this little laptop, I have neither any new skins nor extensions :p
Overall, it seems like the good ol' firefox, though. Wonder what's new? I must look into that.

This really isn't anything more than the release of one particular Nightly Alpha Builds that they deemed fit to release as a preview beta.

Also, for anyone using extensions, use the Nightly Tester Tools which will trick the extensions into making them think they are compatible with this version. In most cases, extensions don't actually break, they just need 1 line of code which tells the app if it's compatible with it.

For adventurous people, you can also test out the Thunderbird Nightly Alpha's, which I like more than the Firefox ones.

Yep, some ppl should read up on the topic if they want at least to keep up the appearances.

Hey Chief, do me a favor.

Go download This Nightly Build. Check out the release version. Uninstall it.

then go download the official 1.5b1 release that Psy posted.

Look at that rv.

Notice something similar?

If you don't feel like going through that hassel.

IT'S THE SAME BUILD!

That is a nightly they released, the 2005-09-08-07-mozilla1.8 nightly. Not the latest trunk of deer park (rv1.9a1/1.6a1), but it is a nightly.

It's quite possible that Derek is indeed right. The above nighty build is in fact the 1.5 Beta 1 RC release (at least it was supposed to be).
It is quite possible that the two releases are identical since AFAIK there weren't any problems on the RC release (and the release date for Beta 1 was 8/9/05).

The only ones that really know if there are any changes between the two versions are the Firefox developers...

Hey, psy, I have no problem getting into a little debating. No problem with what you posted.

But I do take exception to that little twerp telling me to read up when I'm quite positive I follow the Mozilla development (Thunderbird moreso than Firefox, but still) more closely than he does.

Agreed. It's pointless to debate about it. Maybe a file comparison between the two versions can enlighten the ones who really want to know. :p

At least until IE7 comes out, yes. I played around with the beta of Vista (Longhorn) for a week or two, and IE7 is pretty good. Steals most features from other browsers, but oh well. As of this minute, Firefox (IMO) is best. Also have been fiddling around with Opera, which is almost as good as Firefox, but not quite.
