FINALLY got a sony dvp-ns700p;) VERY nice, progressive scan DOES make a fat difference. And of course im running it on a sony 36 inch hd tv, with component cables, jeez, component cables were 90 bucks tho! 16x9 aspect ratio kicks BUTT:devil: Only plays vcd, xvcd, but not svcd!? kinda gay, gotta try if cd-rw's will run svcd...

well DUh! it plays on CD-Rs, hehe, its a new model from sony, ok its a few months old;) BUT for some odd reason it plays vcd and xvcd great, and does not even register svcd!:( and it runs xSvcd! wtf is that?! yes i did allot of encoding today;) wait, dolby 6.1?! i see the option for 5.1, umm, you sure your said that right Macca? yes smiff, if you have an older sony dvd player it will only play on cd-rw's, for the most part;)

there is dolby 5.1, dts 5.1 and dts 6.1. Most decoders are capable of doing them all but some cheap ones aren't. The best sound of course id dts 6.1 but as far as i have only seen one movie in 6.1, rush hour 2. The next best would be dts5.1 which is on most big movie's special editions and then all other movies are on dolby 5.1.

In other words

DTS 6.1 - Rare but the best
DTS 5.1 - Common on Big Movies, also really good
Dolby 5.1 - On most of the other DVDs, still quite good
Dolby Surround 2.0 - The rejeted movies not worthy of good sound

(The First Number is the speakers, the second is the sub woofer)

You should hear a movie with dts if your system is set up properly, Terminator 2 blaring through the speakers and sub...wow :D

very nice Reznor007, i guess for mine i went picture quality first, its pretty much the best you can get besides getting a plasma tv, to my knowledge, now i just need to get a good sound system!:) BTW my freak'n sony hd tv DOES NOT stay at 16:9 enhanced mode after i set it, Like, i switch display modes back to tv, then i go back to the dvd display, and the tv does not stay at the 16:9, nyone know how to save it and keep it there?

gokuss4: www.vcdhelp.com almost every dvd player is different in some respect, (they are obviously the same if they are the same model:)) but check that website gokuss4, it'll tell ya almost everything about ALMOST every dvd player;)

I've got visuals on the upgrade path on down the road. Mitsubishi 55" 16:9 HDTV :)

However, that will have to wait until I get my own house(literally a house, not apt.), I don't want to try to cram a big TV plus big home theater system into an apartment :)

yea seriously, you have component cables for that connection for the dvd player and progressive scan? makes all the difference;)

adi

get out of my house
toshiba dvd players are IMO the best for picture quality, but if you wanna play cds as well (with good sound quality), I'd recommend a marantz model. But I'd just use a DVD player for playing movies only, I got a £90 sony cd player and its pretty good

Everything pictured there I have bought with money I have earned by working :) I work for Hitachi making computer hardware.

As for a VCD, since it is MPEG1, the data isn't a consant bitrate, it varies. But make something 352x240x29.97FPS and see how the size is :)
