Can someone help me out? I tried playing FF9 and everything loads good except I can't see the Battle Menu's. It really sucks :(. If it helps I have these as my system spec's:

* P4 1.9 GHz
* Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB
* 512 DDR RAM
* 200 GB HDD (total)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds lika a plugin problem ! For your GPU , i would take Pete's Opengl2 Plugin ! You can turn on every feature on this GPU with full performance ;)

Thanks a lot. That plugin works :). Very much appreciated mate. What would you recommened for a D3D plugin? My cousin has a pretty low end computer and can only play in D3D (in OpenGL he gets 10 FPS).

Also a mini question I thought I'd post here instead of in another topic; How do you properly close ePSXe? I close it by using the "X" at the top but I have to go into Task Manager to close it because it is still running and making the sounds from the game even though there is no window.

To close epsxe properly , press escape to get to the options window ! Then you can close it with the "X" . If you press that "X" on the game screen window , you just kill the GPU-plugin :D

I don't know anything about Direct 3d plugins , sorry...

Ok thanks again mate :) I'll wait for someone who has some knowledge about D3D plugins :).

Pete's d3d plugin is just the same as the opengl one :) And most settings are explained in the readme. Just remember to set off-screen drawing to 3: enhanced to see the commands in battle.
Good luck!

Oh and, you need an older version of epsxe to play ff9 fully, or it will crash after the dahli village. Or not crash but... not work. heh.

Ok thanks for that. I'll tell him to try that and reply back with the results :). Thanks :)

Ok thanks for that information. I'll continue with 1.6.0 untill it crashes then use an older version to continue. Does it matter which older version? Thanks again :).

That's strange ! I've used epsxe 1.6 all the time to play ff-9 ( with original CD's ! ) , but it didn't crash at dali , but the FMV sequence when the airship starts has very much garbage on it . I've found the same issue on one FMV , where garnet and eiko are summoning Alexander . And when i make images of the CD's the FMV's are getting the same garbage on the screen , like the one on the dali FMV . But this has been fixed for me by using the "-noauto" command line !

I couldn't play using the 'original cd's', I had to patch the disc images before they ran on ePSXe. How did you manage to get the original discs running?

Use 1.5.2 for ff9

Ok thanks I'll try that if I encounter any problems.

I'm only played a little so far and only at the theature crash. So far all FMV's have been very smooth. No problems at all so far. I didn't patch my game either. I'm using an image of my disk since I don't want to over heat them :p. I did try it with the disk and it works exactly the same.

Nooooo.... don't use that!
It will deny any special effects. And the battles won't work properly either.
Btw, I play this game legally too, and it blanks out (just black screen, however long you wait... I think) on the FMV scene after dahli.
1.52 will fix this problem and play the game pretty much flawlessly.
There is indeed a special fix for ff9 you should use... ignore the other gfx settings.

Btw, I use the original cd with either auto-patching on-the-fly or subchannel reading. I play with the cds; not images.

Don't use Pete's OpenGL1 either if you have a DX-9 Capable GPU :p The FB effects are looking ugly with it . Pete's OpenGL2 is the Ultimate choice for DX-9 Card Owners ;)

Ya right now I'm using Pete's OpenGL2 with ePSXe 1.6.0 . I'm at the village of Dahli but before I'm entering I'm training a little. Hopefully I can get past that one FMV sequence :).

BurmecianRat

Fire!!!
Im using 1.52 and it stil gets all messed up when i get to the first island that doesnt have mist. Every time i get into a battle, after the battle it freezes up for a scond and then you can't read anything except for the 3d messages like when "Level Up" pops up next to their name. after that i ahve to save and restart the emulator for the garbage to not be there anymore...

ff9 problems

i'm having a problem in the beginning on the air ship. i'm at the part where the air ship has crashed and zidane decides he is going to go rescue the princess against the wishes of baku. i round up vivi and steiner, then go downstairs to where a couple of band members are. i walk down, to what i assume is the exit into the evil forest. however, the game freezes up at that point. i can still hear the frog sounds of the forest, but it is just a black screen. i tried using multiple versions of epsxe, and i also tried loading from the memory card rather than the save state, does anyone have any other suggestions?

... edit... oh that airship (oops, kinda said to much) never heard of a crash there could be a problem with the disk or maybe your cdrom plugin (or a bad ISO not that anyone uses those)
check out www.ngemu.com for some solutions.

one of the points where it is common for 1.6.0 to crash and 1.5.2 is needed to play on is later in the first disk, but only until that FMV is finished... then you are good until sometime in disk 3 I think. Anyway the ngemu forums cover this pretty extensivly (so much so it pretty much deserves it's own FAQ)

Oh and as far as graphics configs go.... use pete's for this game OGL1.75 for a card that is essentially DX8.1 or less and OGL2 for DX9 or greater a good starting point for your config is here http://www.lordkane.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=13

while your milage may vary based on your card it should be fairly smooth and accurate as a starting point.
