Emu's cause kernel32 error.

Hi,

this is my first post so please bear with me.

Every N64 Emu I have on my h/d causes a 'kernel32.dll' error. They were working fine until I messed with the plug in settings trying to configure PJ64 1.5 to play Banjo Tooie. I'm not totally sure this was the cause but anyways, none of them work now.

I've uninstalled PJ64 and re-intalled but have had no joy. I am presuming that I have PJ64 v1.5 with no additional plug ins (as I havn't re-downloaded any yet) but I can't open the emu to check.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Sam

/me looks at lightknight :p

lol, kidding

Try to uninstall (with the uninstall-file) AND delete PJ64 and 1964 (if you have this emulator too) totally from your harddisk (backup your savegames if you have them). Reinstall PJ64 and it has to work now.

?????????????????????????
Try to delete the registery. There are some files in the \uninstall folder of pj that should be of help.
Oh and btw, a tip, if you have another os (win98 suits fine), i suggest that you switch that instead of me. It's terrible :(

EDIT: Mightyrocket replied at the same time as I did, don't blame me for copying his post :p

This isn't really a fix, but get different OS, because I heard that ME is one of the most unstable OS's (unreliable, a lot of error's, and "Blue Screen's of Death"), if you want a better OS, get one that's an NT based (e.g., Windows 2000, or XP).
I know wear you can get WinXP Home for $109 (pro for $179 (both OEM)), but you don't live in the US:cry:

Hi,
Thanks for the advice but I'm sorry to say that PJ64 is still not working. I re-d/l it from this site but am still getting a kernel32 error.

Thanks also for the advice to change my OS. Unfortunalty I can't afford it!

Any more sugestions?

Sam

Yep Win98 is muuuch better than Me
i had it working from 01.02.2000 and never reinstalled until yesterday's big krash (i've got one very important tool and
it works only in win2k) So i've decided to install it on D: drive. Ok, installed. Works. Installed software, rebooted.

But when i tried to install video card drivers, i've got error message about low disk space. I've got 2Gb swap file
So i've set swap size to 256 mb, who needs it w/ 2Gb of RAM. And after reboot my computer just hung.
When i've booted to DOS from CD it was a horror - my disk C: became
950Mb and only a with a few files

(i had
950Mb of free disk space and 7.5Gb - whole drive.

After 7 hours of f%cking with diskedit and easy recovery (i had to manually restore FATs) i've got most of of my important texts but lost all sources of my NES emulator for Psion 5Mx and Revo  I have backup of early alpha (can run only Super Mario bros and a few other games with horrible gliches and can cause loss of whole ramdisk content, while latest, with completely rewritten core was compatible with 70% of romset (it had
support of most comon mappers )

But it's gone the way of Kega :(

So Win2K SP1 was it this case Win2KillSorryPartitionOnce ...

So i've decided to install it again ... inside VirtualPC. No more crashed partitions.

And back to topic, here can be WinME and also Savage problem, Savage have
most ugly drivers i've ever seen.

First: do you get this error in any other app?
Second: when was windows lasted installed?
Third: who manufactured it (e.g., Gateway, Dell, HP, etc.)?
Forth: you can also reinstall windows?

If you don't want to reinstall windows, you can try to replace some windows files (e.g., kernel32.dll, and other *.dll files (Note: this isn't easy at all, reply if want to try this, but it may harm your PC's OS even more (newer files being replaced with older ones))), but it may not fix this.

If you reinstall windows, backup your files and any other files that can't be replaced(!)

a Kernel32.dll error is a major issue...if it's happening with more than one emulator, that's not a good sign (is it happening with any other programs? Try something that uses DX.) It is possible an OS re-install (and since you are using ME a switch) might be the best solution or might be the necessary solution.

I recommend Windows 2000 over Windows 98se and ME, except for Pentium 1 processors/less than 128mb ram. Win2000 can easily be tweaked to require ~1/3 of it's standard memory requirements by removing completely useless services. It's the most stable OS, and is the best mix of stability/performance and compatibility/features (except for XP, but XP is nothing more than 2000 with more polish in reality, it's really not worth the extra overhead unless you have a high-end machine.) XP is also worse with DOS based apps, but neither OS is the ideal solution if DOS based apps are a priority...in that case, I recommend a dual-boot Win95 in dos mode & Win2000/XP.

Windows 2000 sucked the most for me:

So far, everytime I play MIDI with my
SoundBlaster Audio PCI 128,
Windows 2000 *always* crashes with
this BSOD:
------------------------------------------------
***STOP 0x000000D1 DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

in SBPCI.SYS

------------------------------------------------

I need the MIDI to work properly, because I do some music projects
and this sucks donkey balls. :(

I also wonder if Windows 2000's
PCI IRQ steering sucks, because
I don't get BSODs with Windows 98 SE
when playing MIDI. I also don't recall the above crash occuring with Windows XP, so I wonder if Windows 2000 SP3
is possibly the cause of the above crash? :ermm:

BTW, I noticed Windows 2000 *always* assigns my SoundBlaster Audio PCI 128
sound card to the same IRQ my video card uses, IRQ 11. :ranting:

Am I going to be required to move my
SoundBlaster Audio PCI 128 sound card
to a different PCI slot just to get the
crash to stop occuring under Windows 2000?

OK now, this thread is going off-topic,
thus may be closed by a moderator or
admin, soon. :)

Still got the problem. Any other emu's (for GBA and snes) work fine, it's only the N64 ones that don't work. Tried the other PJ64 that was reccommended earlier but that doesnt work either.

If someone tells me how to get a picture of the error message onto a post I'll gladly do it.

Thanks,

Sam

to take a picture of the screen how it looks right now, you just press shift then Print screen (usually above insert on your keybaord) then go into paint of some image program and paste the image into the file.

Hurray!

Don't quite know what I have done but somethings worked!

PJ64 1.5 is loading and playing roms now. Tooie still freezes my entire computer (can't even do a ctrl+alt+del shutdown) but I'll start a new post for that.

Many thanks for your help. Have been looking around and decided to go with WinXP as my new os. WinMe stinks! just got to find out about uninstalling and installing now.

thanks again.

1) If you'l go to XP, buy at least another 256Mb of RAM (WinXP quite "unplayable" on 128 and still have some swapping on 256Mb, 512Mb is ok)

2) Replace your video card (GeForce2 MX400, Radeon 7500+ is not too expensive ($15-40) but very good for N64 emulation, there's no special video card reqs, even older cards like TNT2 or Voodoo4 will be muuch better than S3 Savage4 (Savage4 is slow and have many problems with drivers, it looks like
Tooie hangs because of your video card)
