Emu lockups?

I've been running into issues when using 1964 recently, namely it locks up and all processes switch over to 99% idle. This occurs randomly on all roms that otherwise work perfectly. I don't remember this happening with 0.8.5, but I will start testing and see what happens.

After more testing I have determined that (on my system) 1964 0.9.9, while with a faster core, is highly crash prone. I have tested all my roms thoroughly with the same plugins in each version, and in 0.9.9 at random times all cpu processes switch to 99% idle and sometimes I get errors in the emulation forcing the emulation to stop.

Example:

1964 0.8.5, jabo 1.4 vid plugin, azimer's audio 0.2b (driver rev 1.1), goldeneye rom

There is video lag, but it runs stable. Switch it to no sound and the video runs great.

1964 0.9.9, jabo 1.4 vid plugin, azimer's audio 0.2b (driver rev 1.1), goldeneye rom

There is no lag even with video and sound, but sometimes there are emulation thread errors (happens often in facility level) and every time I load the train level at 00 agent it does the 99% idle thing.

Has anyone else noticed 0.9.9's apparent instability, or just me?

Same here quite stable.

I assume most if not all of your drivers are up to date?

However I do not know what, if any extent, the BETA team tested on an MP system. I have no clue if the issue lies there or not, but for your specs listed it seems to be the only "odd" point that might cause something weird.

Can anyone on the BETA team confirm testing with an MP system?

At your service, dood!
I am a beta tester, I don't remember anyone in the Beta team which had an MP system, I don't believe anyone did... I was about to suggest that may be the cause.

This is worth taking a look at, i've sent a link to this thread to schibo via a private message.

I will isolate 1964 to a single processor and post the results.

Then I will run my same tests on a single processor system and post the results.

Results of the processor islolation experiment:

To rule out plugins, I have tried Jabo's 1.5.1 and 1.4 video plugins and I have also used Azimer's 0.2b (driver rev 1.1) audio as well as Jabo's 1.5 (w/RSP enabled) for each of these tests.

Isolated processors...

Random lockup (All procs drop to 99% idle) facility level:

Selecting the train level lockup... (All procs drop to 99% idle)

No processor isolation (default)...

Random lockup (All procs drop to 99% idle) facility level:

Selecting the train level lockup... (All procs drop to 99% idle)

Random crash, emulation exception:

Conclusions:

The emulation exceptions will not occur on a multiprocessor system if the processors are isolated. (I smell a core issue ;))

The 99% idle lockups can occur on a multiprocessor system whether or not the processors are isolated.

I will run the same tests on a single processor (pentium) machine tomorrow.

I'm getting the same lockup, especially in perfect dark. I'm running an athlon 2600 and a kt400.

I just ran the same tests on a Pentium 4 2.2ghz (single proc) machine and the same issues happen. Certain activities (especially 00 agent train level in goldeneye) will cause all processes to drop to 99% idle in 1964 0.9.9 but not in 0.8.5 or PJ64 1.5 even with the same plugin set. I believe this is a core issue.
