What is the best Download Manager by now? I need one with a very good resume function and speed, schedule options are not very important for me... what do you recommend?

I prey, not pray.
Mozilla firebird includes a very basic download manager. It has a pause/resume function, and it costs nothing.

I've used GetRight 3.2 for a long time and I would definately reccomend it. It's easy to use and is one of my favorite utilities. Get version 3.2 because the newer versions are actually worse and they will expire unless you register them. The only thing 3.2 can't do is simultaneous downloading of the same file from different sources, but that's not important to me. If you want to try others, Flashget and Download Accelerator are also two of the better ones. Some of the download utilities come with spyware (GetRight 3.2 doesn't), so be careful.

I've been updating to the latest versions of GetRight as they've been released.

It doesn't time out, and nowhere on the web site do they claim it times out.

But seeing registration messages gets very annoying after a while. It's like a registration brainwash.

Anyone the last version (5.?) is very good, and if you can stand the reg messages, it could be worth a try.

Strange i get them everywhere I click. I open the Manager, and a remainder it's in. I click on a file on IE and another remainder appears. Oh i love my pc.

HMMM...I wouldn't trust that too much. It's not like getright to add expering. Anyway, some older versions if so (4.x?) does NOT have expire. The only reminder to buy you get is when you open download status (afaik).
Also remember that getright has some nasty bugs (don't know if they've been solved) with segmenting sometimes. It corrupts files at times. It's not very often, though, and I can't really reproduce them (seems random) but otherwise getright is by far the best download manager out there imo.

The best download manager is flashget
it has spyware if you don't register
but it has a lot of good stuff
and it don't expire

It says it expires after 30 days, take a look at the link (maybe you accidently cracked it). Some of the older versions (but after 3.2) had spyware, but somewhere along the line he stopped including spyware.

Actually, I think I did accidentally crack it at some point.

But in any case, nowhere on GetRight's site does it say the software actually times out after X amount of time.

People also say mIRC times out after ~30 days, but it still works fine for me...

Edit: From GetRight's own purchasing page:

What registering will get you:

# A registration code emailed to you.
# Your code will remove the reminder windows.
# You will also gain access to the registered-only features (such as more items in the Daily Downloads, higher Download List limit, etc.)
# A warm fuzzy feeling that you did the right thing. Without your support, we can't keep adding new features to GetRight, can't have support people to help you if you have problems, etc.
# BONUS: For the foreseeable future, all upgrades to GetRight will be FREE to registered users. (NOT like some other programs that are charging a yearly fee--without even any guarantees a new version will come out!)

"A warm fuzzy feeling" "remove the reminder windows"

Doesn't say anything about re-activating a disabled shareware install...

I told you there were reminder windows, a lot of them.

It doesn't expire. Have used the last version it for more two months, and besides the messages, i got no problems. But, as Doom says, broken downloads occur, hopefully not frequently.

Flash get is nice also, but i couldn't get used to its interface.

This can be avoided by not using lots of segments, and don't keep messing around with them. Sometimes it happens if you just use segments at all, but it's not likely. I've never had a problem while downloading on modem. I messed around with the segments (like took 10 of them) and the download sometimes failed on broadband. So there should be no problem, really :) And the remainder window isn't that much annoying; it's not that you have to access the program everytime, and it doesn't stop your downlod or anything.
